Steam client crashes on changing Proton version in settings in Linux Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS

I was directed to this repo by official Steam client support.

I am using Linux Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS.

When I try to change Proton version the Steam client crashes.

I change Proton version via Steam \ Settings \ Steam Play menu

I checked options "Enable Steam Play for supported titles" and "Enable Steam Play for all other titles". The Proton version selected by default is Proton 6.3-8. When I select the dropdown and try to pick any other version and click Ok button at the bottom of the window the client crashes.

EDIT: To clarify - when I rerun Steam client the new version of Proton is not selected - it defaults back to Proton 6.3-8.

I tried reinstalling Steam client - the issue still persists.

Hello @MaciejReszotnik, if you completely close Steam, run steam from a terminal, then reproduce the issue, are there any hints in the terminal spew?

You've described an issue in the Steam client, not Proton itself, so I've transferred this issue report to the steam-for-linux issue tracker.

Thanks for checking. Unfortunately, there's no real hint to ponder there and the -nominidumps -nobreakpad distro-modification of the Steam package makes this difficult to ponder further.
