i can confirm this
Same issue here :(
Confirm that too.
confirm
Same here.
Yup same here, my map differs from all the servers apparently.
Some threads on steamcommunity.com describing the same issue.

I'm having that issue too.
Linux: openSUSE 12.2 64Bit
Kernel: 3.4.11
My Steam is installed into: /home/user/opt/Steam/
======== WORKAROUND (the dirty one) ========
1.
Rename
Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/cstrike/maps
to
Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/cstrike/maps.org
and create an empty folder
Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/cstrike/maps
Rename
Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/cstrike/sprites
to
Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/cstrike/sprites.org
and create an empty folder
Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/cstrike/sprites
Rename
Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/cstrike_german/sprites
to
Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/cstrike_german/sprites.org
and create an empty folder
Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/cstrike_german/sprites
Comment: replace "german" with whatever you find there.
same here
I have the same problem. Installed CS today.
Linux: Ubuntu 12.10
Kernel: 3.5.0-22-generic
Same here. I've confirmed that the md5sum for the sprite is the same as in the Windows install that is working properly.
Same here.
Same here, 12.10 64bits
And @kolAflash's workaround doesn't work for me... :(
This really needs to be high priority as we can't join any VAC secured server making the game basically unplayable.
There's one server that works for me: 94.23.145.6:27023 maybe the host is also a Linux user?
anyone try and delete their map's folder? I did that and I was able to redownload all the files and join the server.
just do that to all the folders that are conflicting.
I tried deleting maps, but it still complained about fast_wallpuff1.spr. Deleted the sprites folder too, but then it complains about the scope_arc_sw.spr (it doesn't seem to auto-download this sprite?) and I was still stuck there...
Confirmed here, even when I change around the map folders.
same problem as colemickens when deleting the sprite folder here.
same problem for me
Same issue for me on Linux Mint 13 64-bits French
I have exactly same problem.
Hello all, I didn't get any of the map related errors like showed on first post. But I couldn't connect any of the servers. (in my situation I was getting server is not responding error)
I noticed that I can connect to servers which is running maps that are not present on my computer. (like awp, and fy maps)
I looked at the maps directory and noticed that newly downloaded maps have different access permissions. I did this, and now I can connect any map without problem.
chmod -R 777 ~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/cstrike/maps
(thanks knocte)
I'm not sure if your problem is totally different, but you can give it a try.
I hope that helps.
To be clear, the recursive argument for chmod is -R, not -r (case matters).
I'll try this now.
@jeffisabelle's workaround doesn't work for me
@jeffisabelle's workaround doesn't work for me either
yup, still the scope_arc_sw.spr error. even if i chmod 777 that file
@jeffisabelle's workaround doesn't work for me too
Did "chmod -R u+rwx ~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/"
777 is useless as other users don't need access.
It worked.
okay, I think I figured this out.
if you look at bug #1014 , you can see that there is a bunch of fake servers. And I think this bug only happens with fake servers like that, which is convenient because who wants to go onto fake servers anyway.
So here is what you do:
-Find a server you like,
-right click, view server info
-make sure the players connected to the server DON'T all have the exact same play time
-connect
and it should work. It did for me anyway. What helps is clicking "change filters" -> check "has users playing" -> refresh all, which should get rid of most fake servers. Pick a server with real people playing and it should work.
I did what both @mobyfab and @InmanInman suggested and it worked! I could play online! I am not sure which one did the trick BUT I did notice that most of those fake servers that @InmanInman mentioned have almost always 2 slots open so that might be another hint. It seems to me there aren't many legitimate CS servers anymore.
After all I played CS natively on my Linux box which I never thought would happen! Yay Valve!
There's actually tons of legit servers, the fake ones just sorta seem to flood them out. But after I do the checkbox thing and press refresh, I suddenly see a whole lot of servers with real players that weren't there before
Does that mean that Windows users normally play in fake servers? and what does "fake" really mean here? that the players are bots instead of humans? And what is the point of setting up these servers?
As for me, I have tried all workarounds mentioned in this thread, and I still can't play but just in one server (94.23.145.6:27023) which is not very crowded so sometimes I feel very lonely.
I'm also affected; Linux Mint 14 KDE with AMD graphics
same problem
Can you please post some of the server IP's you are failing to connect to.
Ya I can only play the servers that have actual people playing. The servers that have bots won't let me join and I will get one of the 3 errors I have in my original post.
I have no problem joining any server after the update that allows fast downloads.
@alfred-valve
some fake servers that yield the error:
46.16.76.51:27268
46.16.76.96:50016
also @ everyone, note that if you connect to one of these servers and it downloads the map, it will always be the same map and not the one it says it is, just a bunch of boxes in a small room.
2Yulike:
what update are you talking about?
I havent had any since installed CS, and downloading maps/sounds is terribly slow,
how to apply this update?
@Yulike what update? I dont see any update...
@mobyfab: it didnt work : <
I did the following, and it worked:
now try to connect to a REAL (!) server.
the map and the missing sprites will be downloaded and may appear in .../Half-Life/cstrike/{maps,sprites}
at least for me ;)
It seems to be the only servers with plenty of users in the ‘Internet’ tab are fakers which trigger this problem.
94.136.62.187:29007
84.45.121.138:27017
84.45.121.138:27028
109.70.149.26:27001 is a good server.
I tried the checkbox where players are currently playing, i could then connect. There does seem to be some sort of issue with servers.
hhahahahaha, I hate those servers. They have corrupt files on disk, fast_wallpuff1.spr is only 1kb for them, not the 153kb it should be. I racked my brain as to why it started happening, then I ran the current (non-beta) win32 client and connected to 84.45.121.138:27017, the bugger redirects me to a different server on connect...
So this is actually by design, we have broken these servers ability to randomly redirect you to other servers, and it is showing up as problems when connecting later.
#1014 may further help by delisting/demoting them earlier so you don't even wander across them.
I can't connect to any server. The error I get each time is "Fake client. Connection was in idle state for 8 seconds". I have seen some reports on steam forums but not here:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/10/discussions/0/846940248032224787/
The error occurs since first release of linux version. I've tried reinstalling CS and HL1 but it didn't change anything.
best way to solve it is getting the correct files from server
1- get backup and remove that file or rename it (for example add some chars to end of file)
then the game automaticaly get it from server
2- get that files from a person who can connected to that server
hope it helps
Nothing extracted yet.
So I started Counter-Strike and when I tried to connect to any of the servers I was trying to connect to it kept having map issues like you see in the images below.
