I am on Arch 6.1.2 with a 12900k and a 7900 XT running latest version of Mesa.

When I run steam it sets up the runtime environment like normal but when its over it gets to the line "Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(0)" or "manifest download, waiting to finish..." and then it kills my Xserver and I am back in lightm. The GPU drivers work on heroic and games run like they should, but steam is the only program that kills X. I have had 2 7900XTs, 1 was reference and steam worked perfectly, the other is a red devil.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. buy 7900 XT
  2. install arch and latest mesa drivers and run steam
  3. cry

Hello @uwzis, in general, no OpenGL application should be capable of crashing a user's session including Steam and this reads like a video driver issue.

Thats what I was thinking, Mesa is such a unstable mess at the moment for RDNA3. It worked a couple days ago on arch 6.1.1 but Im not surprised given these drivers are very broken.

If anyone comes across this issue just install Mesa 22.3.0

Nothing extracted yet.
