Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): 1671675017
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): SteamOS Holo
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: [Yes/No] Yes
  • Have you checked for system updates?: [Yes/No] Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

There is currently the problem of quitting Steam games as a non-Steam game. Launching works, but the game hangs on exit. Steam Deck can't exit it and I have to restart the console for it to exit.

I am launching a special game via Steam version of RetroArch with this command:

steam -applaunch 1118310 -L "/mednafen_psx_hw_libretro.so" "/run/media/mmcblk0p1/Emulation/roms/psx/Wild Arms.sfc"

tried it with an other Steam game and it's the same problem.

When adding other Steam games as a non Steam game with the applaunch command as destination, it's also not possible to close the non steam game anymore. The game starts, and it's possible to close the game, but the non Steam stays open.

Of course, it makes so little sense to create an additional entry. But for games with additional functions like RetroArch it makes sense.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Add steam version of RetroArch as a non-Steam game with a specific core and retro game
  2. Exit the game and RetroArch
  3. Endless exit loop appears (Steam logo is visible)

@kisak-valve I don't think it's a 3rd party problem. I tried it with an other Steam game and it's the same problem.

When adding for example Rocket League as a non Steam game with the applaunch command (steam -applaunch 252950) as destination, it's not possible to close the non steam game anymore. Rocket League starts, and it's possible to close the game, but the non Steam stays open.

Of course, it makes so little sense to create an additional entry. But for games with additional functions like RetroArch it makes sense.

@kisak-valve Should I create a separate issue for the general problem with running Steam games as non Steam game?

Otherwise, I have adjusted the ticket so that it fits. So it's not a 3rd party title issue here, it's a Steam issue.

Hello @DFelten, the 3rd party game label is a note that a third party game title (non-Valve) is involved with this issue report, not that it is the cause of the issue. Creating an additional issue report would just fragment the discussion of the issue across multiple issue reports, which is non-productive.

For transparency, in my initial evaluation I didn't include the Steam client label because this is a fairly unusual game configuration and it's unclear if the root cause is in the Steam client or something near it.

Nothing extracted yet.
