A similar issue happened with SuperTuxKart a while back: https://github.com/supertuxkart/stk-code/issues/3030
This was the fix: https://github.com/supertuxkart/stk-code/commit/252403c9cc92f83403246b8ad6336b6e06d0445a
I suspect the issue is similar with the new Big Picture Mode.
I'm not getting this with the latest drivers (525.85.12) - I'm getting a blank window like in #8916, which was closed and isn't actually fixed yet.
Same issue.
I'm seeing weird transparency behaviors when a page transition/animation is playing in BPM, not sure if it is related to this.
Example:
Disabling FXAA from Nvidia settings fixed the problem.

Big Picture Mode (BPM) on Linux Mint has been transparent in the beta recently. I opted out of the Beta and the old version was working again. Since the latest release the problem also occurs in the non Beta channel version of Steam BPM. This is completely unusable. I have changed to several other Vvidia drivers 525, 515, 510 and 470 with no change. Only when disabling Nvidia drivers does it show up normally but that is no option for games.
Steps for reproducing this issue:
Expected Behavior:
Using Big Picture Mode
Actual Behavior:
Big Picture Mode is unusable.
Things I have tried:
Workaround:
Edited /usr/share/applications/Steam with the modifier -oldbigpicture (will eventually be removed by Valve, so not a fix)
