Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I am using in-home streaming to stream games to my Steam Link (hardware).
I have connected Steam controllers to my Steam link, which works fine.
However, every time I quit a game (and occasionally even when connecting for the first time)
the controller's stick stops working (but buttons work) and I cannot navigate the Big Picture interface
any more.

When that happens, I get the following messages in the console:

Controller device closed after hid_read failure
Controller device closed after hid_read failure
Controller device closed after hid_read failure
Controller device closed after hid_read failure

There is no way to fix this but to stop remote play and restart steam on the host.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Connect to Linux host via remote play from Steam Link
  2. Play any game
  3. Exit game
  4. Controller's stick stops working

I run into this from time to time. I also have a hardware Steam Link. It sometimes help to reboot the controller only. For this I have to long-press on the Steam icon of the controller so it powers down. After restarting it again I've a fair chance that it starts working again.

Not a fix but may help easing the pain.

Thank you, but unfortunately, this does not work for me. The only thing that helps is restarting steam on the host.

Nothing extracted yet.
