Piggy backing on this as I am experiencing a similar thing now with new Big Picture mode.
Distro: Manjaro Linux.
Steam Client Version: Built Mar 17, 2023 at 18:27:00
Controller: Steam Controller
I open Big Picture mode, launch a game (Deep Rock Galactic), while in game I activate the steam overlay (Steam Button on controller) to configure my Touchpad to do something. I change from "Directional Pad" to "Touch Menu", it prompts me to type a menu name (btw: shouldn't it ask if I want to use an existing touch menu instead of creating a new one??) and the UI stays as Directional Pad. I can keep doing this and it won't fix it.
If I quit and relaunch the game, I see that it has created multiple virtual touch menus.
I am having this issue with normal command mappings, on my Steam Deck with the Mar 20 version.
Nothing extracted yet.
Your system information
Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
Inconsistent and sometimes broken behaviour with sub and extra commands in the controller configuration when added, deleting or changing their properties.
In my experience:
Removing extra and and sub commands does not update the UI at all until the UI is seemingly completely refreshed. So removing a sub command will appear to have no effect, until you move to another part of the UI or close the configuration UI and open it again when starting from the normal desktop client.
For example, setting the left Joystick to D-pad directions, adding a sub command for Joystick/D-pad up, then trying trying to change the Joystick up binding, will cause the binding to seemingly not change at all. Removing the sub or extra commands will also not appear to work.
Clicking the cog icon next to left Joystick Behaviour then clicking back will cause the UI to update.
Changing the properties of extra commands e.g. changing from regular press to long press does not appear to stick regardless. Clicking the cog will always show regular press, even when you refresh or restart the UI.
Properties of sub commands in particular also cannot be changed at all and I'm not sure why. In fact, I'm not sure what the point or meaningful difference between sub and extra commands really is. They both seem to do the same thing, just one has less configuration options (e.g. no change to press behaviour).
Tested with Steam Controller.
