Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

one expects to be able to edit controller configurations fluidly, but it seems that with sufficiently complex layouts this isn't the case.

i found when editing the official no man's sky controller layout, it struggles to change between the various menus. sometimes it can take a couple seconds to switch between views.

the problem doesn't appear be any more or less severe while the game (or anything else) is loaded; i can exhibit the problem from a fresh boot of the deck.

i haven't attempted to by-hand assemble a layout of similar complexity, so i don't know if this is restricted to something in the no man's sky support, or a general issue. the fact that it occurs without the game running makes me think it's general, though.

as a further note, in one particularly alarming scenario while attempting to delete an extra command on a button the entire deck ui locked up. i had to hold the power button to forcibly shut the device down, as it was completely unresponsive to steam/qam interactions, screen taps, and other inputs. although i could hear the sound running in the background, so the game itself hadn't actually frozen, which implies the problem was localized to the ui, but that's hardly a helpful distinction if you can't restart just that.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. install no man's sky (there's no need to launch it)
  2. edit the no man's sky controller configuration
  3. attempt to navigate through the various menus
  4. experience substantial delay

the linked video below demonstrates the issue. there are a few things of note:

  • the 'afterimage' that you can see switching between some (but not all) panels is not a recording error, that's actually what displays on-screen (originally experienced with the internal-screen, so it's not related to video output on the dock, either)
  • any time you see me navigating up/down the menu, i am holding the button down. these are not taps, and tapping is no faster. the same input in other controller layouts has no such behavior. although tapping is slightly faster than the auto-repeat in those scenarios in other layouts, the delay on the auto-repeat is nothing remotely close to what's on display here.
  • note that the delay in moving between menu rows is inconsistent, presumably related to the overall complexity of those sections of the interface (and possibly the interactions configured within them?)

Hello @esotericist, this reads more like a Steam client issue than an issue with SteamOS as a platform, so I've transferred this issue report to the steam-for-linux issue tracker.

that's fair, i struggled with which of the repos to put it in because i wasn't quite sure myself

Nothing extracted yet.
