Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Trying to access game properties in "regular" Steam (from the right-click menu or the cog one) doesn't do anything any more. The properties window doesn't appear; no error message on the terminal, either.
Same for "browse local files" and uninstalling stuff. For all intents and purposes, these are no-ops.

Fortunately, Big Picture Mode still has the functionality, but having to switch to that and back is getting old. Stuff like this usually "fixes itself", but it's been weeks ...

Same thing here. Basically it seems like the click doesn't register on the contextual menu but rather on whatever under it (typically an entry in my library list).

I'm running Ubuntu 23.04 Lunar Lobster, using a relatively vanilla Gnome Shell. The issue disappears when I change the focus mode to "click to focus" in the Tweaks tool, both the focus-follow-mouse and "sloppy" options trigger the issue.

Well observed. Can confirm.

[focus mode]

FWIW, I don't use click-to-focus, either.

This is happening for me on the beta right now as well.

I had high hopes for the big UI revamp, alas, no cigar. (UI-scaling [4K] is now completely broken as well.)

This is really bad. I can't even revert to stable Steam, because selecting "No beta chosen" in "Client Beta Participation" doesn't register.

Could we at least get an acknowledgement for this bug from Valve? It's a very serious usability issue on Linux.

Is everyone with this problem on GNOME?

No, I'm on openbox window manager, X11

Add a setting to improve compatibility with window managers that send an unfocus event before every pointer click event, e.g. openbox. This setting can be found in "Settings->Interface->Enable context menu focus compatibility mode". Enabling this setting will fix dropdown menus being unclickable on these window managers.

This setting from the beta update dated July 6th finally fixes this issue. Please give my love to whoever did it!

P.S. I'm curious, though, why is it a setting? Does other stuff / do other configs break with it on?
Feature request: Either find a fix that doesn't require a setting, or try to detect configs that need it and default to on on those.)

I'm afraid it's back. That is, "properties" still works, but "uninstall" now clicks through again. "browse local files" is affected as well, but I couldn't swear that ever was fixed since the original report.

Heads-up, bug still present on latest Steam beta. The "context menu focus compatibility mode" setting still fixes the properties window, but all other context menu items click through again with or without it.

Nothing extracted yet.
