Your system information

  • Steam client version: 1683078372 (2023-05-03 8:00 UTC)
  • Distribution: Mint 19.3
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: Yes
  • Have you checked for system updates?: No

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Steam loses network connection every hour or so for a few seconds, the overlay will say so while the peer-to-peer game instantly disconnects. Shouldn't be an issue with that network in particular, since not only does the same thing happen with the same frequency in another network, but all other online applications (videos, voice chat) will continue to work without issue.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Play online game (tested with Deep Rock Galactic and Terraria)
  2. Wait for the online game to lose connection, the Steam client will also state that it has lost connection, Steam will reconnect within a few seconds

Setting a static DNS server instead of using the provider's dynamic DNS seemed to fix the issue.

Revisiting this because I was trying to troubleshoot the same issue once again, the fix doesn't actually work, it worked for maybe the rest of the day and the issue persists until now. Disconnects are now way more frequent and directly visible in the steam client without even needing to open any game. Redeeming a game key took about half an hour because the loading bar on the window got stuck at each disconnect.

I have the same issue, changing my DNS server doesn't seem to work.

Nothing extracted yet.
