Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): 22.05.2023
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Nobara Linux
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: Yes
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When wanting to install a game, it is possible to change the language of the game before installing, but those settings are then overwritten when actually installing the game, with no popup to change the language afterwards.
This is especially frustrating when installing a game like Gothic 3 which does not support switching the language after installing and has to be installed with the right language beforehand.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Right click game
  2. Change language to german
  3. Install
  4. Start Game
  5. Notice, that the game's language is english

Same procedure works in non beta release.

Hello @SnoutBug, the game language should be selectable in relevant games in the per-game properties.

Can you check if you're able to work around this issue by starting the download of a game you know has multiple language variants, then in the Steam Library view, click the game's gear icon on the right side, Properties..., and change the language preference in the dropdown?

As a workaround, changing the game's language setting while downloading works, but also causes the download to reset completely and start from new.

Nothing extracted yet.
