Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): 1682708537,
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Gentoo
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: [Yes/No] No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: [Yes/No] Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I am using GNOME Desktop Environment on Wayland, with XWayland enabled (confirmed it using xlsclients and it showed some other flatpak apps running). Launching the app from app menu only brings up the updater window briefly. Launching it in terminal gives this output: https://gist.github.com/JohnTheCoolingFan/66994b95d01f4bc813a56c7539c44183

Expected steam to launch without giving the Could not connect to X session manager: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported error.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Install flatpak Steam client from flathub
  2. Ensure wayland is being used and xwayland is available
  3. flatpak run com.valvesoftware.Steam

I'm on version 1685488080 now and it's working correctly.

What makes me suspicious that it errored the same after steam update (built-in updater, not flatpak). I don't think I tested it again after that and went straight to the config files to get concrete data whether I'm using Steam Client beta or not. And I was correct in my report, client beta wasn't enabled.

So yes, it does work now, but I'll test more.

Nothing extracted yet.
