For many games which have native controller support, I would like to be able to use my SteamInput Desktop Configuration which has one actionset to emulate a gamepad, and another actionset for m+kb bindings, to play the game and alt+tab to use other applications without closing the game or plugging in a keyboard. This would be particularly useful for using the Steam Deck in Desktop Mode.

As far as I can tell there's no way to do this on Ubuntu, Steam Deck SteamOS (desktop mode), or Windows.

Current Behavior (things I've tried to get the desired behavior, though the current behavior is intended afaik):

  1. If you disable Steam Input for a game, both the desktop configuration and the per-game configuration are disabled so that the game may use the controller through the OS.
  2. If you map system hotkeys like alt+tab within a per-game configuration, these bindings do not get sent to the system.

Requested Behavior:
Maybe a button in the Game Properties -> Controller menu to enable Desktop Configuration within a game?

Nothing extracted yet.
