I often need to copy info from the console in Counter-Strike and paste it in another application. Since alt + tab does't work, I have to exit the game before I paste, but the copied text is gone from the clipboard after exiting.

That doesn't seem right. It defeats the purpose of having a clipboard. Also, I can't find any other application that has the clipboard cleared when it's closed. Does Gnome/Unity has a workaround that makes the clipboard content stay in memory after app is closed?

That's how it should be. If you want that the clipboard content be accessible by the other applications, just install a clipboard manager, e.g. parcellite.

What do you mean? You copy and paste data between applications all the time. Using a clipboard manager was a good idea though; it's a good workaround for me.

It's not really broken since it's implemented like that in X11. Mostly due to the client-server architecture.
