  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Manjaro Linux using KDE
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes updated them and I believe that's whats causing it
  • GPU: Nvidia

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible: Whenever I update my GPU driver and start my PC the next day steam client does not open even though its running in the background via the taskbar I have a pic of the steam icon in my taskbar but I can't open the steam client unless I run a few games on the steam via the taskbar and it randomly opens

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Update your GPU drivers
  2. Shut Down your PC and start it up

Most likely yet another symptom of the unreliable shader cache we've seen with the NVIDIA 535.xx series driver.

how do I fix it though ?

If my guess is right, then the workaround mentioned on #9764 should have an effect, or downgrading to an older NVIDIA driver series until the driver bug is resolved.

I've got the same issue a couple of week ago and the tomorrow of the issue things works back fine (may be related I deleted nvidia GL cache but not restart the system after that).

Now, the issue is came back, but I don't have any nvidia cache to delete. I hope the 535.86.05 nvidia driver will be released soon on manjaro.

Finally, using pacman -Syu find the 535.86.05 update released in stable repo on July 25th and install it (Pamac or Octopi, even after refresh database won't found it)

Steam run fine now

Closing as a NVIDIA driver issue which has since been resolved in the video driver.

Nothing extracted yet.
