Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I am unable to access the controller settings/controller layout window for either the global settings (Settings>Controller>Desktop Layout) or per-game (controller icon next to the settings cog when accessing a page) while my PS5 controller is connected. When I click the button the page loads to a blank screen with nothing except a navigation key on the bottom (showing Menu, Select, Exit with playstation glyphs), or I get a loading circle that does not complete.

In the games where this happens I am unable to use the PS5 controller in-game; the trackpad on the top of the controller works as a mouse but none of the buttons are picked-up by the game. As far as I can tell all games that cannot load the controller settings window will not detect controller inputs and all games that cannot detect controller input have the issue of not being able to load the controller settings window.

The per-game windows do work correctly on certain games (Celeste, Portal 2, System Shock Remake all work) however some games as well as the global settings act in the way described above (Sekiro, Elden Ring, Sonic Mania, Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus do not work). The controller is still picked up by the steam client; it works in big-picture and the steam overlay while in-game, and the back button still works when in the blank controller settings window.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the steam client, logging out and in of the steam client, restarting the system, etc. I have the Dualsense/PS5 drivers for linux installed as well as xboxdrv. I am currently running the Linux Mint system package version of steam (v1:1.0.0.74-1ubuntu2), and have tried both the stable release and beta release. I installed the flatpak version of the steam client (v1.0.0.75) and the global settings did load correctly, however there was a separate issue which meant I could not mount my steam library from disk which meant I was unable to test the per-game settings. I have also tried both wired and bluetooth modes for the PS5, neither of which worked.

I am running Linux Mint 21.1 64-bit Cinnamon, using the Steam system package v1:1.0.0.74-1ubuntu2. I am using an unmodified PS5 Dualsense controller (model CFI-ZCT1W)

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Connect PS5 DualSense controller via cable or bluetooth
  2. Navigate to either Settings>Controller>Desktop Layout OR navigate to certain games (i.e.: Elden Ring) and click on the controller settings icon next to the general settings cog.

Any updates on this three year old bug? Since apparently it's so widely known
