Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When you start Steam, it generates error log in the journal, because I think the main window trying to open just instantly crashes.

Github Gist

Here is a log, you can see the two first crashes were when it was trying to start, it eventually started after the second window crash/core dump. Then it randomly crashed the window (the long third crash in the log file) and the window reopened itself. Basically the new Steam is VERY unstable and its front end just collapses on itself all the time, you do a right click on someone in your friend list, most of the time the menu which opens just closes itself (crash) when you hover one of the menu element, or you browse the Steam client (store, library, settings, whatever) and it randomly closes and reopen the crashed window (at least it tries).

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Start Steam
  2. Observe the main window not opening or instantly closing, or randomly closing when it works after initial core dump

PS: the template command for the log should not have "Desktop" in it, first because people have localized name in their language most of the time, or people customize the folder, in both cases the command doesn't work, so it would be better to just create the archive directly in the home, as this is bulletproof location.

Hello @Zorrototo, please retest with NVIDIA 535.86.05 when it comes available to you through the normal package updates from your distro.

Most likely a duplicate of #9780.

It indeed seemed to have fixed the core dumps. Thanks!
