Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition gets stuck with the intro video on Steam Deck, where it ends up freezing at the Xbox Logo splash screen and playing the audio infinitely. This is seemingly a regression that got introduced as of 1085ba713e8b3c2dd7de5e395eeeb5f1a8bc06dd from a bisect. I use a slightly newer DXVK down below since I just used the first DXVK that was in Proton Experimental Bleeding Edge that included the commit to grab the log.

This only happens with SteamOS Stable 3.5.19 at the moment, it does not happen with SteamOS 3.7 on the Main Branch.

Software information

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition (813780). Default Settings. Brand new install or current install of the game both have the issue. It can be a new or an old Proton prefix, it doesn't seem to matter.

System information

  • GPU: Steam Deck OLED model
  • Driver: SteamOS Stable 3.5.19 would be the best one to list here I think.
  • Wine version: experimental-bleeding-edge-9.0-95802-20240509
  • DXVK version: 0beb18ef739fbfcc89aa8cf5ba926b45100a6c95

Log files

Please attach Proton or Wine logs as a text file:
steam-813780.log Logs are from a current Proton Experimental Bleeding Edge Build with the DXVK from the first Bleeding Edge build that included the regression.

Closing this bug. Turns out this was revealing an issue with Gamescope WSI which is now fixed.
