Entire computer crashes with no blue screen after clicking the "Cohort" tab on top of the hub menu, the computer just shuts down completely and boots again after a few seconds

Edit: Crashes too with DXVK 2.4.1, but instead of clicking the 'Cohort' tab you only need to click continue or load game in the main menu

Steps to replicate:
1-Start game, hit continue (or load game in the hub menu where you can change the gear of your characters, try with Save 33 of the provided save file at the bottom if you don't have a "continue" button in the main menu)
2-Click the "Cohort" tab on top

Unsure if this is a Windows problem or not, I leave it here to see If the issue can be replicated since I believe it might lead to gpu exploits, physical damage, etc

One other person has had the same issue before me on the steam forums with a AMD GPU, he claims that he fixed it by updating his drivers, didn't fix it for mine: https://steamcommunity.com/app/673880/discussions/0/3203652426711115676

This issue happens only with dxvk

Haven't tested yet but try with latest dxvk release first which is 2.4.1

Edit: The AMD user in the steam community link had issue with the native game unless i misunderstand?

Yes, the user had this problem with the native game, I don't have the issue with the native game tho, only with DXVK, also, after updating to 2.4.1 somehow it got worse, now it doesn't crash my computer after clicking the Cohort, tab, it crashes the computer after it loads the hub (clicking continue, or load game in the main menu)

This problem keeps happening only with DXVK, the native game is fine

To be very clear about this: dxvk does not have the ability to directly crash your system or damage your hardware. It works at graphics API level, so there's no direct interaction between its code and hardware. The graphics drivers are responsible for mediating between the two.

That being said, it can:

  • cause high GPU and system utilization, which may expose system instabilities
  • cause drivers to crash, if said drivers have bugs in their Vulkan implementation (if dxvk had bugs, then ideally your game should crash, not the entire system)

So the likelihood of this being a driver or system problem is very high.

Try using DXVK_FRAME_RATE to limit power draw.

Sounds like your trash can of a Pc is overheating, which causes the reboot.

BBlisto91 2024-10-11 github

@lextra2 don't know if that was meant as a joke or not but please watch the tone. As that can be easily read mean spirited

@ZuheMolina I misread the issue the first time around and thought you meant a GPU hang. A full shut down usually indicates a hardware issue yes.

So i have given this a shot on Windows and have not managed to reproduce any issues with my RTX 4080.
A game or driver crash would be one thing, but a full system shutdown is a whole other level.

My best guess would be some very specific condition gets fulfilled on your setup to trigger some hardware issue. Maybe some current spike your PSU can't handle. Not sure

As others have already pointed out: your PSU can't handle the load.
