This might actually be related to the Steam Beta overlay. I did enable and play before updating and nothing happened but maybe it's "random".
Definitely looks like a crash somewhere deeper down the Vulkan stack, but I don't think we're really doing anything invalid with presentation and we're definitely not doing anything game-specific there, so if there's an issue then everything should be running into it.
I just had my entire screen turn into graphically glitched static noise when playing The Finals yesterday. I was able to switch to GDM, log back in, and continue playing the entire match. I took a screenshot with my phone though again, it was just static noise.
I've done two RMAs now and 2 OCCT GPU stress tests as well as 2 OCCT CPU + RAM tests. Everything came back green.
Nvidia refuses to acknowledge any bugs reports from me and just removes them as "spam".
Some context that I forgot to add:
I was already experiencing issues before updating. Then I was getting random black screens for a second and sometimes they would result in a full on crash. My guess is that there is a driver bug somewhere and the updates moved things around. In other words, same underlying issue, different symptoms.
I'm 100% sure this is a Steam client overlay bug. Valve updates the client with it and now i'm getting crashing. It is a little different in that instead of a GUI popup i'm instead getting an XID 32:
NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:0c:00): 32, pid=2923973, name=GameThread, Channel ID 00000064 intr 00800000
NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:0c:00): 32, pid=2923973, name=GameThread, Channel ID 00000064 intr 00800000
and
Xid (PCI:0000:0c:00): 109, pid=2950384, name=GameThread, Ch 00000064, errorString CTX SWITCH TIMEOUT, Info 0x4c037
Is doing basic bug testing before you push code to non-beta production branch somekind of lost knowledge? Why can not a single company anymore do the bare minimum?
@doitsujin AFAIK you work at Valve. Can you send this bug report to the right people?
Still an issue, probably never going to be fixed.
If it is a overlay issue it should be reported at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux

After rebooting from an Arch system update, The Finals crashes with:
The game was working fine before. Just loading into the practice arena can trigger this but if it doesn't it will within the first few minutes.
