Software information

Battlefield 3

System information

  • Fedora 44
  • GPU: 5070 TI
  • Driver: 595.58.03-1.fc44
  • Wine version: Proton 11.0-beta1 (and any other GE-Proton too)
  • DXVK version: v2.7.1-467 (proton 11) and dxvk @ 1676dca

Issue

Battlfield 3 has severe stuttering that happens in time with "Compiling shaders..." indicator.
On windows (native without dxvk) the issue doesn't happen, not a single stutter.
Haven't tested older DXVKs

Update:
Tested DXVK on windows, no stutter while "Compiling shaders..." during game play.
Frametimes are similar to native dx11 but moderately more gpu usage (33% vs 50%).

I mean yeah, Nvidia's Vulkan shader compiler is slow and the game compiles everything at draw time. Can't really do anything here.

After I moved the game from ntfs to btrfs. i couldn't reproduce the issue even after clearing nv cache.
Not sure what ntfs has to do with shader stutter, my prefix where shaders gets stored lives in btrfs.
I think this can be closed? Notably DXVK doesn't stutter in windows.

Eh, well, fair I guess, but these Frostbite games are somewhat known to have stutter problems anyway if stuff isn't cached.
