I believe this issue is gamescope-session specific, and still exists in SteamOS 3.7.2. I'm observing the flickering to not occur anymore after dropping to desktop mode.

Hello! I do not use gamescope to run the game - the only launch option used was PROTON_LOG. My DE is the most up-to-date version of KDE.
