vkd3d-proton cannot possibly be expected to modify dstorage dlls.
Ah ok, thanx for the info. So essentially the workaround remains as is -- to delete the dlls and play away?
If there is a leak in dstorage itself somehow, then that's about the only solution you can hope for, yes. I don't really have time any time soon to debug why that happens.
It's ok, I'm not asking you to do that. I simply opened the issue in hopes of some sort of feedback on if someone tried this already or if you had any sort of idea where the problem lay. I'll dive deeper into it when I have the time, and again, if I find some success, I'll drop by and let you know.
Have a good one.
Issue
Hey!
I'm letting you know there may be (is for me) an issue with how the
dstorage.dllanddstoragecore.dllis handled on some systems. The issue is, that the frame times become unbearable and the game starts to stutter incredibly after a few minutes of playing it. I assume the system doesn't know how to handle dumped assets after the GPU doesn't need them any more, as the system memory keeps getting filled up, and after hitting about 22 GB, the game is borderline unplayable. Therefore, I suspect a leak in the
GDeflateorGPU Decompressionpipeline, or something similar (not entirely sure if I named them correctly). Renamingdstorage*components todstorage*.bak, the issue is completely gone, and although the system memory still climbs, the frame times are completely stable. I had up to 150 ms stutters with directstorage, and now have completely stable frame times at a target of 60 fps (about 20 ms $\pm$ 5 ms). Renaming the said components seems to make the game fallback to standard Win32 I/O.I'll start working on the issue asap, unless you beat me to it, and if I'm successful, I'll notify you with what I did to fix it. For any additional info, please let me know and I will happily provide.
If you deem this to be more of a GE-Proton Issue, let me know, and I'll open it there instead.
