Same over here on Arch Linux with Proton Experimental.
Xbox Gaming Services appears to just be borked on Proton.
Same issue on CachyOS + KDE Plasma with any Proton :/
Arch Linux + Hyprland user here, having the exact same issue. I was really hyped to play the new game, but I can't launch it because of the 'Missing Gaming Services' prompt
Fedora + Gnome, same issue, tried proton-ge, proton-11, proton-cachyos, proton-experimental. They all fail the same way :/
The DLL (or at least one of them, can't tell quite yet) that's missing is xgameruntime.dll in System32.
Executing the main game instead of the launcher binary instantly crashes too.
I have the same issue.
And i did some research, and they vendor locked the game on purpose. Probably Microsoft trying to fight Linux.
And currently i haven't found any workaround.
Might be helpful!! Very dissapointed to see this happening, first game runs perfectly fine so naturally you would expect the sequel to run well too.

I think this recent forza motorsport fix could be highly relevant, seems to target many of the same things, havent tested.

I have tested it, I got to a UE crash screen
I've tried <Removed by Moderator> and I have also gotten to a UE crash screen

Can you share the full proton log and full ue crash log?
Xodus requests xgameruntime.dll from Windows for XThreading to work.
Getting further?
Same issue on Fedora 44 + NVIDIA

Here's one UE Crash Context with the Forza Motorsport Instructions
When trying out the Xodus patch with PRESSURE_VESSEL_FILESYSTEMS_RW and XThreading (requires xgameruntime.dll), it actually succeeds with Xbox login and the game attempts to start from then on, then dies later.
No errors, no logs, this is really annoying actually.
IT ASKED TO INSTALL VISUAL C++!! A NEW PROMPT!!!!!!

I found <Removed by Moderator> that got me to the login screen but the login failed, so I think xodus might be the way to go here
arghhh idk what its doing but its sitting here on "running"
game executable is still open though!

What tweaks did you make?
The DLL (or at least one of them, can't tell quite yet) that's missing is xgameruntime.dll in System32.
Executing the main game instead of the launcher binary instantly crashes too.I think this recent forza motorsport fix could be highly relevant, seems to target many of the same things, havent tested. [#7151 (comment)](https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/7151#issuecomment-5185158201)
Tried using the workarounds for Forza Motorsport, I haven't gotten as far as @r1sk01, I'm getting a UE crash and ERROR xodus_service::connection::xml: Failed parsing message: Unimplemented from xodus, though that might be me messing something up, or something's up with my xgameservices.dll.threading
arghhh idk what its doing but its sitting here on "running"

just so I'm understanding you correctly, is the game launching? How far are you getting? I've gotten to the login prompt but got stuck there

no display, the game seems to just hang
the login prompt was passed by xodus without me interacting

are you on the correct branch? that shouldnt happen if you extracted it straight from a windows machine

The FM Proton has very specific patches for FM, I wouldn't expect dungeons to launch with it.
(I haven't checked if this is malicious but) this fork got the game to launch
<Removed by Moderator>
This fork doesn't ship with XUser, which is probably why I got stuck at the game trying to log in

worth a shot i guess while im probing what the other issues are
@Izumemori that gdk proton actually ships its own xgameruntime.dll?
i think it may be a stub though

yes, that's the issue, upstream winegdk also still doesn't implement xuser and the pr for it is a wip
A WINDOW JUST OPENED?????
Same issue on CachyOS + KDE Plasma with any Proton
Share tweaks NOW
thanks hyprland for tiling <3
OH COME ONNNN
HOLY you guys are INSANE I was so sad today I won't be able to play the game I waited so long for
Better than nothing
What did you do to make it open?
gimme a bit ill make a tutorial after i figure out what this is
it might be an issue with xodus
BTW dont worry error code 0063 is common for everyone! I am in dungeons server its a common issue for everyone rn, even console players

oh???
perhaps xbox servers are on fire rn
ill double check and write a tutorial while im waiting for the game to reboot
yes the servers are on fire, if you got into the menu the game works, you're insane man you all guys are wow like
I'm playing on Windows and getting disconnected about every 10 minutes; the Xbox service isn't any better than Ubisoft's.
Worth noting Xodus is going to be a nightmare on Steam Deck due to readonly FS, missing dependencies.
Also funny thing to note - there is an offline mode
Also funny thing to note - there is an offline mode
not what i paid for
dude I don't know whats going on at Microsoft right now but many windows users also report it shows them they do not own the game even tho they purchased it? Lmao
Anyways yeah error code 0063 is server issue I am so glad you guys got it working really amazing work
0064 - Xbox game services. Win11 LTSC - Had to install Xbox services to get it working.
0063 - Very likely server issues, they have a lot of players rnWorth noting Xodus is going to be a nightmare on Steam Deck due to readonly FS, missing dependencies.
I'm getting 0063 without xodus, only using <Removed by Moderator>. So if it's truly server issues it might work
Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5888650830
it might be, in that case, we can just drop xodus which would be way simpler and wouldnt need a windows vm to use
Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5888385148
I managed to get it running with this Proton build but curiously enough even without Xodus running it still returns Error 63? I guess we'll have to wait till the servers stop dying to see if it can log in
Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5888650830
oop didn't see your reply, my baddd
Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5888687252
yeah you can either wait or spam to rejoin, many reported that spamming the button eventually let em in lmao. Idk just gotta be lucky to play for now but the most important part is the game works now
I bet the Login 0063 issue is more related to GTK-Proton not implementing XUser than a server load issue https://github.com/Weather-OS/GDK-Proton/issues/13
Got to the same screen
me thinks this is not a generic issue, i think this is a problem with the setup
hmm actually im sorry I think I mistaken error codes, like im just judging by what people have been posting but 0064 seems to be the server
no idea whats 0063
me thinks this is not a generic issue, i think this is a problem with the setup
yes looking at the requests made I get a 403 back from the /LoginWithSteam endpoint.
Xodus is likely the only way to get it working then
actually, I'll need to look into this more
This may be a dumb question but could we install the gaming services on wine directly?
This may be a dumb question but could we install the gaming services on wine directly?
No, it depends on UWP stuff and that doesn't work on Wine.
uh oh i just realised my setup only works outside of steam and as soon as i get into steam it starts crashing again with no logs or anything
what the heck
me thinks i screwed something up, one second while i backtrack
This may be a dumb question but could we install the gaming services on wine directly?
No, too deeply integrated into Windows, but with winegdk and xodus porting efforts exists.
But I'm not sure it needs all of it /LoginWithSteam seems to indicate it needs a steam ticket, which proton should support. I'm a bit stumped why it's returning 403
This may be a dumb question but could we install the gaming services on wine directly?
its a uwp package and its just not worth trying to get it working directly
What about trying some parts from https://github.com/Wyze3306/BedrockOnLinux

yeah, so this is an issue with our setup
double check that <Removed by Moderator> actually authenticates properly, i have a sneaking suspicion something might be missing
It's wild that Dungeons II is actually the thing making me boot my windows partition for the first time in over a year

we love microsoft so much, they have to force us to love them

I'm currently trying to use parts of that project to make dungeons 2 run, for now I'm somehow advancing. Trying to get Xodus to work with it, but not working atm
Mmmm, I wonder if you can bypass 0063 with an offline parameter.
Asked claude to dig through the strings and it seems there might be one in engine.ini?

sounds about right, i cant even argue with that
What I've learned so far is that a winegdk based proton gets the game to launch, that it does correctly call out to playfab's /LoginWithSteam (which indicates that it wants a steam ticket) but the XCurl shipped with the game hands off the request to winhttp as an empty get instead of a post so we get a 403 back.
I already tried swapping the XCurl with mingw curl but that causes the game to crash instead :(

Is it possible to maybe intercept the winhttp calls? I'm new to this wizardry at this level so I could just be comically wrong

I have not figured out more than that the game sends a post and wine sends a get. Not sure how or where it fails

When i tried to launch the game on macos with crossover i patched xcurl instead of using mingw to stop throwing E_GAMERUNTIME_SERVICE_NOT_AVAILABLE and it fixes all the issues there(you need the xgameruntime.dll but that easy), but what im left with is 0060 due to the lack of xbox stuff, but maybe this can help you guys on linux

ooooo thats really helpful!
@Izumemori this might be the next thing to try out
I patched the XCurlManager::Initialize() and just removed the failed branch
hr = XNetworkingRegisterConnectivityHintChanged(
taskQueue,
this,
XCurlManager::ConnectivityHintChangedHandlerStatic,
&connectivityRegistrationToken
);
if (FAILED(hr)) // nop
return hr;
hr = RegisterAppStateChangeNotification(
XCurlManager::HandleAppStateChangeStatic,
this,
&appStateRegistration
);
I got it to run and log in:
I'm using the Proton version provided here:
<Removed by Moderator>
And replaced the XCurl.dll with a downloaded version from here:
<Link removed by moderator>
I also had the xodus service running the first time I logged in, not sure if that was doing anything tho.

Really simple, get that proton version, replace the XCurl.dll in the game files and you're good
Fix replicated
Can't login to my Microsoft account, tough.

we might still need xodus...
wait @Schoggi0815 did you have xodus-service running when you got into the game?

The first time, yes, now I can launch it without xodus running.

me thinks the game stores the auth token, we still need xodus
xodus is probably required once to link the Microsoft account
I'm also getting it to run, i'm looking if xodus was needed too
sorry where are we up to i left for like 30mins
ill test myself, but my xodus service hasnt received more requests from the game in subsequent runs, so im pretty sure its saving the auth token after retrieving from xodus
Ok, xodus was stopped when I launched the game, it might actually not be needed ✨
sorry where are we up to i left for like 30mins
multiple people have spun up the game
Ok, xodus was stopped when I launched the game, it might actually not be needed ✨
did you get a prompt to login with your microsoft account ever? and does it work with online?
Works on deck as well. First login was done on a Windows PC.
Crosssaves work.
Can either do Xodus for the pure linux users or a Windows VM/PC for others.
Is there any Launch option / is xodus service necessary ?
Ok, xodus was stopped when I launched the game, it might actually not be needed ✨
did you get a prompt to login with your microsoft account ever? and does it work with online?
Nop, it just went in without any prompt
PS: My Microsoft account might have been linked to my steam account way before from the first game, but I am very much not sure at all about this

Online works. No Xodus. No additional launch params.
Download proton, drop it into compat tools, replace game's xcurl.
ok so from what i can see you need <Removed by Moderator> and to change the xcurl file with <Link removed by moderator> and maybe xodus if it asks you to log in for the first time
I have no xodus, just copied an XCurl.dll from my Windows partion's Minecraft Launcher and used <Removed by Moderator>. Unfortunately, I'm not sure why, the linking with Microsoft button isn't working, but there might a web based workaround already?

yeah it seems like xodus is needed, sad
does anyone know how to reset game settings from files?

UE game, so it should be in compatdata under folder 1912410. PFX, Drive C, Users, Steamuser, appdata, local

it seems like a hit or miss thing, perhaps some games share the xbox token? im not too sure
Seems xodus is not needed if you dont need to link your microsoft account tho. Enough for me for now
same here, is there any place i can track progress?
Game has common crashes, couldn't get through the tutorial
Game has common crashes, couldn't get through the tutorial
It crashed for me too, but it seems to run fine if the xodus service is always running, can't say anything for sure yet tho
Game has common crashes, couldn't get through the tutorial
Just writing a markdown file with everything I tried up until now (where the game actually launches and gets to the main menu logged in), I'll try the tutorial too, to see if the game actually works now x)
I guess no xodus needed at all, Im running xodus-service, but nothing opening /run/user/<UID>/xodus.sock (lsof /run/user/<UID>/xodus.sock), and game still working without xodus. then I removed my proton prefix, and stopping xodus-service, game still can be go to menu.
note: microslop account is not available, whatever xodus is running
So pretty much the breakdown of all this is:

it's older, maybe it doesn't have the path you patched out
do I still need to use the forza branch of xodus or will the default branch be fine?

working on it
Game has common crashes, couldn't get through the tutorial
Just writing a markdown file with everything I tried up until now (where the game actually launches and gets to the main menu logged in), I'll try the tutorial too, to see if the game actually works now x)
Yep, crashed during the tutorial :/
I tried not to use that special <Removed by Moderator> after first launch, instead using proton-cachyos
LMDE 7. Using the GDK and xcurl posted in this thread, NO xodus used here. It sat on the "signing in" screen for me for about ~60 seconds but then correctly logged in.
One thing to note though, I have played both minecraft dungeons and minecraft legends on this steam account, So i suspect @r1sk01 is correct about the auth token probably existed already?

I also tried latest ge proton, works. Huh. Worth testing would be if only the XCurl.dll needs to be patched/replaced

either way, it works, which is way better than it not working in my opinion
now the tutorial is the next issue :c

i've tested it on cachyos with latest ge-proton (11.7-x86_64) and proton-cachyos (11.0-20260703-slr-x86_64) and it's not working, the same "game services missing" message pops up
Tried using proton-cachyos, didn't work

@r1sk01 i use proton-ge, not gdk, and i'm getting to the main screen with login. of course i patched XCurl.dll
I think r1sk01 said we might need to download the xgameruntime.dll and place it somewhere as xodus require it for xthreading
Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5889733180
I got that proton and XCurl, game launches but as soon as the title screen stops playing, the one where it says Mojang Studio and some other companies the game crashes to this
Maybe it matters but I am on Mint XFCE
I think r1sk01 said we might need to download the xgameruntime.dll and place it somewhere as xodus require it for xthreading
I never did that, never touched xodus. My hope is that the steam <-> Microsoft Link is server side so I'm starting the game on my windows laptop right now to see if that carries over

I tried this, however it fails to verify game ownership (error code 0059). Granted I did get the game running on Linux without xodus beforehand
yeah mine's running just trying to get my account linked
yeah latest Proton-GE works for me as well just seem to be the xcurl.dll I can't figure out xodus. I've tried launching dungeons I where I'm signed in but it still doesn't sync with dungeons II so I can't link my account yet.
I don't think that's what it's doing, keep in mind playing online isn't the same as having the account linked, I can play online/party but it still says not linked in the settings
From the tests I've been running it looks like the tutorial crash is coming from the XCurl.dll binary, maybe a mismatch version or something similar. I'm testing a bit more on my side and I'll keep y'all updated

pressing link makes a file called login.json in ./Dungeons/Binaries/ which contains { "verification_uri": "https://www.microsoft.com/link", "user_code": "linkcode" } linkcode being the actual code to use on that url and if u try it it errors and doesnt link it
Ive used this <Removed by Moderator> + xcurl dll from that weird website - got into the game but crashed after a few minutes. But had to restart twice for my online character to load
Then I switched to proton exp be but left the weird xcurl and now seemingly its working without crashing
Edit: it crashed after half an hour

How is the tutorial looking?
@TudorHH3000 what's your setup?
on ultra graphics preset on a 4050 it gets decent fps
@TudorHH3000 what's your setup?
<Removed by Moderator>, that shady XCurl.dll that was posted here and PRESSURE_VESSEL_FILESYSTEMS_RW=/run/user/1000/xodus.sock WINEDLLOVERRIDES=xgameruntime=b %command% in my launch options despite me closing the terminal with xodus-service some time ago
SteamDeck=1 allows me to play online!
This actually looks very important, now it runs without the XCurl.dll change, on GE-Proton, completely without error
Got the entire game running fine
My setup is
<Removed by Moderator>, once game is functioning, you can switch to any other Proton version in my testingOnly issues thus far are graphical bugs here in some cinematics, can probably fix by changing protons. First sign in can be a little fiddly since Xbox servers are atrocious, but at most 3 attempts are needed. Do note that the game doesn't stop when you shut it down via ALT-F4 or your keybind of choice, so force stop in Steam as well.
I've ended up linking accounts on my Windows partition cause I dual boot. If anyone is planning on doing the same, please make sure your clock is synced (we love Windows). There is also a trick to login via /Dungeons/Binaries/login.json, but I'm unaware of specifics.
Additional findings from a CachyOS/KDE Wayland/NVIDIA investigation. I have not found a working recipe yet, but the failure stages differ by runtime:
<Removed by Moderator> baseline, the game renders part of the opening sequence and then produces a fresh Unreal assert: XblInitialize failed: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE) at Xal.cpp:78. The same run shows QueryApiImpl for XSystemImpl {e349bd1a-fc20-4e40-b99c-4178cc6b409f} / IXSystemImpl5 {1861cf2e-e18b-4834-a9f5-b4a4e6efb4cf} returning E_NOINTERFACE.xgameruntime.dll based on the newer native18 WineGDK line makes the IXSystemImpl5 query succeed. With the WineGDK IgnoreVersionMismatch=1 setting and host-generated Xbox pre-authentication, XUserAddResult returns S_OK and XUserGetId succeeds.XblInitialize or a menu. The latest traced run shows Dungeons-Win64-Shipping.exe calling UninitializeApiImpl and then exiting itself with status 1; no exception or new Unreal CrashContext was generated.windows.web.dll, a DefaultPlatformService=Null Engine.ini setting, a temporary Gaming Services CLSID registration, and disabling the native threading sidecar. None advanced the visible result. The pre-auth path bypasses Wine OAuth/JSON parsing, so the windows.web.dll transplant does not prove that parser path works. No raw Proton or Unreal logs are attached because they may contain reusable authentication material. No token, account identifier, local path, or credential file was included here. The runtime is still experimental; this is diagnostic evidence, not a user-facing workaround.
Tutorial:
<Link removed by moderator><Removed by Moderator>Startup argument SteamDeck=1 %command%
idk if it's necessary
Done
Game settings where really low res first time around? Just go back in and reset them or choose any preset
Managed to get into the game and complete the tutorial on CachyOS using <Removed by moderator> and the XCurl.dll. No need to link account as I previously did it with other Microsoft games on Windows (such as Minecraft Legends).
SteamDeck=1 allows me to play online!
Can confirm I also got it running fully on a fresh prefix without <Removed by moderator> being used at any stage. I am using a patched DLL though so I'll try with the original.

Confirmed with original DLL. You can use any proton version and no need to patch any files. Just run with SteamDeck=1. Seems to also reduce networking and login bugs. The shutdown issue (needing to also shutdown using Steam) and the linking issue (having to look into login.json to login) remain unfortunately.

In my testing yes, if someone can confirm on a separate machine that would be nice, but I used a fresh prefix and original game files so I think so.
Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5890795668
This has not worked for me running from Steam on CachyOS. I always get the prompt to install gaming services no matter what proton I use, and then an immediate crash.
Update (CachyOS, Steam AppID 1912410): I tested the reported SteamDeck=1 launch option with GE-Proton10-34, keeping the existing preauth/debug options. It still closes before the menu.
The fresh Proton log shows Dungeons-Win64-Shipping.exe initializes D3D12 and enters the GDK XUserAddAsync path. WineGDK then reports LoadDefaultUser failed to get oauth token. Immediately before that, GE's windows.web logs IJsonValueStatics.Parse as a stub while processing the authentication response. GE also replaced the prefix's prior WineGDK windows.web.dll with its own copy. WineGDK's RefreshOAuth parses this response through IJsonValueStatics_Parse, so the strongest lead from this run is that the GE/WineGDK windows.web mismatch breaks OAuth parsing; SteamDeck=1 alone does not resolve it.
This run produced no fresh Unreal crash dump and no XblInitialize assert, so it appears to fail at a different point from an earlier baseline GE-Proton10-32 run. That earlier run recorded XblInitialize failed: 0x80004002 alongside IXSystemImpl5 returning E_NOINTERFACE. The two failures may reflect different incompatibilities in the baseline versus the GE/WineGDK combination.
No logs or authentication data are attached. Can anyone confirm whether using the windows.web.dll shipped with the matching <Removed by moderator> build resolves the GE-Proton + SteamDeck=1 path, or which runtime pairing is expected?

Yes, on the webpage it says successfully linked with Dungeons II, but in the game that error appears
im still using the <Removed by moderator> but i changed to the original XCurl.dll and the 0063 error is back but i changed to use SteamDeck=1 %command% in steam launch options. without the <Removed by moderator> it just crashes on launch

Fresh install launches. Proton-GE, SteamDeck=1, game freshly reinstalled and prefix cleared.
I'm on arch linux, 7.2.6-1-cachyos, kde plasma 6.7.5, wayland.
However, I am consistently getting 0063, so a patched XCurl DLL, at least for first login, might be needed?
Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5890911546
Another thing is, I played Dungeons I too, but shouldnt make a difference on another prefix?
Got it working on my Deck.
However I didn't get tho connect to the Microsoft servers and didn't try to finish the tutorial.
Got both error 0063 and 0064 and managed to login after retrying to connect (WITHOUT xodus).
Still trying to get it to work on my main machine (EndevorOS/Arch)
I tried launching Dugeons I as well but that still didn't fix anything when trying to link for me
Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5890948956
Patched XCurl fixed the 0063, but seems like no need for <Removed by moderator> in this setup. My final theory is maybe <Removed by moderator> without XCurl patch may work, but unlikely.
For now what is working consistently is Proton GE (although could be any proton), SteamDeck=1, and a patched XCurl
it says my account isnt linked even tho i just linked it
yep I don't think anyone has managed to link yet
Okay folks, sorry that I needed to briefly pause your excitement, but I need to make a couple details clear.
First of all, please avoid posting filler comments that don't add any insight. This just makes it longer to sort through the all the feedback.
Second, third party redistribution of copywritten libraries is legally problematic and can not be tolerated. Links posted by @Schoggi0815, @CJF2, and @r1sk01 have been removed along with the reposts.
Third, instead of creating reply chains by re-re-re-quoting previous comments, please prefer to use a link pointing to the previous comment so that we avoid echo chambers of repeated text.
I'm guessing it's ok to share the version of the DLL we are using and letting people search for it instead of sharing a download link (worst case if it's still not ok I will be edited) and letting people search at their own risk the .dll?
So to make it clear, when we are talking about the Xcurl.dll we are working with, we are talking about the version 2303.2.0.0.
Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5891373676
to be fair, sharing a download link to a random dll was a bad idea regardless of whether its copyrighted or not
this was my first time finding compatibility for a game so i was wholly unaware of the guidelines and definitely didnt abide by them (my mistake)
however, at the end of this, we do need new xcurl compatibility in mainstream proton for this game to work officially, so working on that might be a good next step together
I have an issue I tried everything I seriously don't know whats the problem, I have followed the tutorial, the intro was laggy at 1080p so I though maybe I could change the resolution to something weaker and yet same lag. I play on a laptop and its pretty low end but I have optimized it good enough and can run some titles, I believe hardware is not the problem here I just don't know why it's crashing. Im also sending my log I got from that UE crash
https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/d1a5f9b8-3e21-4221-abcc-7c065fce8b23
Ive Tried all the methods i saw here but im still at this problem. I may be doing it wrong or... Manjaro doesn't like me that much.
this is with GE Proton 10-34 and the Xcurl.dll replaced with the one linked before.
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5891706359
you have to use the <Removed by moderator> for first launch
XCurl actually seems to be a redistributable because it has no signature or anything like that out of the gate
perhaps there is a legitimate to get the DLL besides installing Windows?
will investigate
Good to know. I Realized that i had other prefixes with broken states in them and so I removed the old ones and it works! with <Removed by moderator>.
Thanks!
I have got online mode working on the Steam Deck by just using <Removed by moderator> and replacing XCurl, but I still can randomly get error 0063/0064 or issues like "unable to retrieve online game character", though they can generally be resolved after a few retries. This does not appear to be a persistent problem.
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5891921820
it may just be server load or bad chance, the game has a lot of people online, who knows
if it persists, xodus might help, but its a little invasive and has a low chance of helping
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5890960587
To sanity check what I was doing and be sure to leave as little room for error as possible, I did a fresh install on my Steam Deck.
First Launch:
<Removed by moderator>After the first launch, I was able to switch to Proton Experimental.
Still no luck on getting it to work on my PC.
@kisak-valve there is a version of XCurl officially distributed by Microsoft which can downloaded easily and i believe solves this issue
am i allowed to post the link to that and the instructions to unzip and install it if it works?
I don't think links to official sources are problematic

i dont doubt, but we got warned for it, so i might as well check
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5891964636
Did you also add the SteamDeck=1 to your launch options?
Stuck here
FIXED with this workaround:
Linking the Microsoft account manually (no window will ever appear)
The game falls back to writing a device login code into a file. The rest has to be done by hand:
In game, click "Link Microsoft account". Nothing visible happens, this is normal.
Read the code the game just wrote:
cat "$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Minecraft Dungeons II/Dungeons/Binaries/login.json"
{ "verification_uri": "https://www.microsoft.com/link", "user_code": "CODE" }
user_code is the value you need. Every click overwrites the file with a new code.
Open https://www.microsoft.com/link and enter the code.
Sign in with the Microsoft account you want to link.
Leave the game running. It polls for authorisation, so the link completes on its own once Microsoft confirms.
Things that will happen:

probably not used by the game since theres no clearly no intention for linux support

everything works with ge proton 11.7 and changed xcurl file and also xodus but for some reason the button link microsoft account does not work no matter what i do with it any idea anybody?
currently have an issue where i got the xcurl.dll fixed, I got the GE-Proton11-7 installed, I have my accounts already linked, I got the SteamDeck=1 set. I can get into the game, however randomly throughout the tutorial it crashes continuosly. is there a fix for this or? (this is online play)
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5892139989
Skip that part, you will not connect to the microsoft servers (so I guess you will not be able to redeem the capes if it's something you care about). But you will be able to play locally.
I didn't test anything related to Xodus as I don't mind not being online, so you may find a way to get it working.

Honestly mostly github to blame on that
Yeah we already tried that earlier and from what I saw everyone was getting Error Code 0073 so I don't think that's the fix
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5892449140 are you sure it worked can you screenshot your settings to show the account linked?
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5892406975 I've tried using mobile app and launching previous Dungeons I but no luck with Dungeons II.
I think looking at xodus it requires more work to implement functions in the DLL that the wine shim doesn't have and I've tried copying a windows DLL to the prefix and using xgameruntime=n but then the native DLL is just trying to look for windows specific things and I get prompted to install the game services again. xodus does have a DLL repo but I think it's still missing things I think this comment https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5888385148 was right about needing the XUser changes to be merged.
is there any documentation for the dungeons error codes?
that might be useful to link here for later issues because there seems to be very different issues occurring here with those annoying magic numbers as the only indicators as to whats happening
For me all working fine on CachyOS + Caelestia Shell
I did:
<Removed by moderator>okay, at this point, for all the people not having issues, i would like to make a request to move to protondb and make reports as to how you got it working so people over there can get the same info and get around this issue
i think that would be better because at this point, theres enough information for the majority to get the game working (awesome!) and no reason to continue posting successes here
has anyone got account linking working yet?

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5892724033
There's still the issue of account linking. I'm able to play the game but the menu still says "no account linked" and the bonus capes have not synced
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5892788371
the bonus capes need a microsoft account to be linked and it does say they may take a while to apply even after doing so
Might be a dumb question, but how would I install xodus?
ok so from my understanding we have got the game running and playable but we still dont have a full idea of how to link accounts tho we have some guesses is that about right
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5892809993
Yes that's what im talking about, we still can't link microsoft accounts. Haven't seen anyone show the account to be linked yet
yeah From my last post well comment. it was stuck at 0063 Error when trying to sign in. and i just tried doing it over and over. and after the fifth time of closing the game and trying again it crashes with this? it has no log i dont think. then again im not quite sure what im looking at exactly.

can someone please tell me how to get the patched dll. I cant seem to find it no matter what i do..
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5892872660
i need to find a matching one that works properly with the game and isnt pirated, so until then, you are on your own
I think this comment is on the right lines https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5892381235
with their custom DLL file and python script it gets further but then I hit error code 0029 and got this popup

Tested on CachyOS with<Removed by moderator>, fresh prefix and SteamDeck=1 %command%: before the swap I got 0063, after it the game gets past that into the first-run accessibility settings.
edit: the cp line assumes the default steam library in ~/.local/share/Steam. if you've got the game on another drive/library just swap that path for yours. easiest way to find it: right click the game in steam > manage > browse local files, then go into Dungeons/Binaries/Win64

and someone did the work!
lot of information there... but yeah, that is the dll in question
uhm, fair note, your copy command does need to be changed if the user has the game installed in a different place (resolved)
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5892964425 this didnt work for me, still got 0073 error and 0070

really didn't want to do this.. but i guess I have no choice.. also I found the this dll (same ver) on an archive site so there's that (Didn't use it cuz of obv reasons).
thanks for the help
I did mythos way with the dll provided and I got past the Login into accesibility. and following Camara's post though, check the location cause mine was slightly different. i got the code and Im logged in!
it can work but it took me two to five reboots and praying.
Edit: you cant create a hero. but i did get the capes and DLC
dude i just learnt that all the launcher binary does is pass the arg "Dungeons" to the main game binary, im deadass
ye at this point im just going to sleep and work out how to link my account tomorrow good luck everyone else
i did the mythos thing with terminal i have like 10 terminals opened just in case and the only thing i get is % total % received % xferd % average speed time time time current dload upload total spent left speed and the time ticking under spent and a 0 under the last speed
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5893253740
Just a small detail, the Twisted Cape is for pre-ordering and that is handled by Steam. It does not need your microsoft account to be linked.
If you manage to unlock the Hero Cape instead, then that would be something.
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5893380067
try opening the download link in your browser, if that fails then thats beyond the scope of this issue
Do you have to run Dungeons with a different launcher than wine or proton with mythos' way?
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5893416592
actually, correction, you still need to use the custom proton iirc, but thats all
gdk-proton?
something new appeared no idea what this is

So I was trying that custom AI DLL for xgameruntime I did have to make some further tweaks with AI for my setup. It got further then I've seen other methods as it attempts to link my account in game but then I hit 0029 failed to link account looking at the xgr.log that this custom DLL creates whenever it hits vex.minecraftservices.com/account/steam/link I always receive a 500 even though I think my tokens are valid and 500 would make me assume it's something on their end? but this is a completely AI vibed DLL so who knows...

honestly, just dont use it, vibecoded slop usually has issues which dont exist on the commissioners machine ("works on my machine")
Confirming, I got this to work on Arch (Omarchy) with an NVIDIA GPU. Minecraft Dungeons II starts, I'm logged in and in the game.
System
Background / possibly relevant
The day before release I had already signed into my Microsoft account in the original Minecraft Dungeons (via Proton) to prepare for this launch. I don't know whether that helped here. Dungeons II was set up in a fresh prefix, so nothing carried over locally, but the Microsoft sign-in was already done and working on my account. Mentioning it in case it matters for the login step or for anyone comparing setups.
Before (GE-Proton11-7)
The game launched GamingRepair.exe to install Gaming Services, which failed and exited without a window:
RoGetActivationFactory Failed to find library for Windows.ApplicationModel.Store.Preview.InstallControl.AppInstallManagererr:ole:create_server class {5b99fa76-721c-423c-adac-56d03c8a8007} not registered (HRESULT 0x80040154)ComponentType Gaming Services, ComponentBefState NotInstalledWhat fixed it
<Removed by moderator> instead of GE-Proton. Note: its compatibilitytool.vdf had the same internal name as my GE-Proton install, so only one showed up in Steam until I renamed it to <Removed by moderator>.SteamDeck=1 %command%compatdata/1912410 aside).XCurl.dll with the one from Microsoft's official NuGet package Microsoft.GDK.PC.230307 (10.0.22621.3139). The extracted DLL matched sha256 c8b83d8810c4dccd55e5a3f6dd9f2ca9e865df2f6eead6db55f7fb9c50066159.The game then got past the failure and into the menus. Thanks to whoever posted the XCurl.dll trick.
Resolution
The game forced fullscreen at a low resolution and I couldn't reach the Next button on the first-run screen. [PROTON_LOG=1 SteamDeck=1 %command% -fullscreen -ResX=2560 -ResY=1440] It now runs fullscreen at 1440p. Remove PROTON_LOG=1 at a later date because it slows down the game and creates a huge log file.
Happy to post logs if useful.

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5893841081
From what I gathered (correct me if I'm wrong), we don't have any idea as to how to connect to the Microsoft services for now.
We are working on it but it will probably need some time to fix.
On the screen you have right now, you have to press the Esc key (as mention bottom left of the screen recording), but you will most likely play offline.
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5893841081 the account linking doesn't work just click somewhere else on the screen or try pressing Esc to skip that dialog then you should be able to click play online or offline just not possible to link accounts
i am in the game, but i cant log in to microslop to link account
also crashes
alright, ive been able to quite consistently complete the full setup, ill make one last comment with an amalgamation of all the resources everyone has collected and then im out of here
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5893952447
As stated by @Alextibtab and myself it's a known issue that will take time to fix.
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5893962141
They seem to be some what "normal" as a lot of people (seemingly on windows) are complaining about crashes in the Steam Reviews.
ok so i switched to proton ge and it doesnt crashes now, so idk what this is
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5894034269
so this crash is normal..? get it rather quickly in some cases like maybe 10-20 min in, sometimes an hr or two
On CachyOS I set up the <Removed by moderator> and used the xcurl.dll, plus set SteamDeck=1, I can get the game to launch now, however it just goes to "Press Any Key" and when I do I get 0063 error over and over nothing else.
Edit: I just re-applied the xcurl.dll and I got past the 0063 issue.
Reject Microslop
Someone in our chat has just beaten the game xD
mine did crash before also. I Did it this way and got to here, My last comment showing how i did it.. it wants to work but also clearly doesn't. as shown.

I skipped that, I will add my account at a later date.
in case anyone has sea of thieves installed you can go to ./Engine/Plugins/Rare/UE4RareAudio/Source/Spatial/Binaries/Win64/Release/XCurl.dll and copy that to /games/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Minecraft Dungeons II/Dungeons/Binaries/Win64/XCurl.dll and it should work with <Removed by moderator>
just want to double check.. does liking the accounts through the xbox mobile app work?
I just want the MC cape

No

I wonder if linking it on another computer would make it sync... probably not but worth a try.
So using that DLL as a starting point and then needing to heavily tweak their xauth.py I finally got my account linked LETS GO!!
OK, so some how, I managed to join someone in a party, I don't know how or why, but here is what I did step by step (very wordy, for not much):
<Removed by moderator>, tried connecting but failed on repeat (Login Failed | There was an unexpected issue when logging in. Please try again. | Error code: 0063).<Removed by moderator>)Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5894597275
Care to share with the rest of us how you did it?
I can create a fork with my changes but I basically modified this https://github.com/Kubas556/Dungeons2_linux_fix but I'm really not sure what its doing as I only have a very surface level understanding their xauth.py apparently only minted xbox and mc tokens but not PlayFab which is what's needed for dungeons.
I don't know if I'd recommend it but I'll put it on a fork if people want to try.
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5894664099
honestly, better a shaky solution than no solution
I somehow joined party but i am still not able to link my acc. I played for 30 mins with 3 crashes
I installed GE-Proton11-7 and the xcurl file and it still don't work, I have the Pop up that install nothing and the game crashes... I'm on Ubuntu, someone can Help ?
Okay I pushed my changes to my fork https://github.com/Alextibtab/Dungeons2_linux_fix
You should be fine to just run the install instructions from the README.md that will copy the DLL to three different places not sure if it's needed in all three of them. Then just add WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xgameruntime=n" %command% to you launch arguments.
Then when you click link account it should open a browser window to the link page and then you should see a popup window in dungeons II with the code to enter. Hopefully then it works? I don't seem to have gotten my preorder cape yet though only the hero one so far.
Again word of caution I've just blindly forked the original repo and haven't really spent much time looking at what the massive DLL does. I think you have to put it in ~/.local/share/dungeons2-compat otherwise the DLL will look for the wrong path when trying to launch the python script
Unfortunately, I have to be the bad guy here. A third party build of Proton which was mentioned many times here is legally problematic and needed to be removed. I tried to preserve as much of the prior discussion as possible, but some comments unavoidably got removed.
Please do not mention or promote that build and any workarounds will need to avoid that third party build.
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5894812240
Tried a fresh install and it's not working. Giving up on it, I'm about to reach the 2h and I still want to get my money back. Tried to help as best as I could.
Have a good night/day/whatever. Thanks for the help.
I've been trying to replicate my success on a different device but yeah it seems that it was very specific to my setup/machine so it might not be as easy I'll see what I can do I updated the README as I forgot initially so it had the old repo link and now it uses a virtual environment to install cryptography as the xauth.py now requires that library.
Looks like the DLL is also hardcoding some offsets based on the XCurl.dll I downloaded which wasn't the one from NuGet so I'll try and change it to not hardcode so much.
i tried using https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5894812240 but im stuck at
I got it to run with the fork of dungeons2 for linux but having contanst UE crashes
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5896005380
When did you try because I accidentally still had the old repo in the install instructions so it was cloning the old one for probably 40 minutes until I updated the README
Well I unlinked my account and deleted the tokens just to see if I could replicate it linking and now I'm also getting error 0029 🤣 back to debugging...
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5896157201
im also trying to debug, maybe it would be easier for you to enabe issues on the repo so we dont spam here?
i tried multiple times, i saw the change and cloned fresh, stll and issue

This is why I will always always always hate capitalism and IP law. "We found a solution!" "No you didn't delete"
is the low 3d resolution and severe ghosting a linux bug or does the game just look like that.
This is why I will always always always hate capitalism and IP law. "We found a solution!" "No you didn't delete"
I like how they say "third party build" so no one actually knows what to avoid if they just joined the thread, I know it's just covering their ass legally but it's funny.
you should put it in ~/.local/share/dungeons2-compat for now as everything is pretty hardcoded for where it's looking for stuff
Full fix: fork of @Alextibtab's repo (fixes the UE crash) https://github.com/AdrianMontes0512/Dungeons2_linux_fix
This probably won't be the first game that has a hard dependency on Microsoft Gaming Services. There might already be others out there. Would it be possible for Valve to implement stubs or a small implementation of Gaming Services themselves? I'm sure Wine has stubs or alternate implementations for some Win32 APIs, and GrapheneOS has stubs for Google Play services. Neither of those projects are in legal hot water.
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5897282418
we still have to replace the xcurl.dll ourselves right?
Is anyone else getting crashes when opening the inventory trying to select new gear?

I don't think so? I tried <Workaround removed by moderator> without the custom proton version and xcurl.dll and it works just fine with proton-experiemental. The cut scenes are a bit choppy on the frame rate but I can comfortably play in online mode at 2k 60fps.
The current issue for me is that I keep getting code 0029 when I want to log in to my Microsoft account. The first activation of the microsoft link was successfully but afterwards I can't seem to log in successfully, getting an error code.
I have tried connecting my steam account to the Xbox app thing and no cigar. This seems to be a problem that goes beyond linux users though, so I'm not sure if anything can be done at all.
EDIT: Tried to clear the log in issue a bit.

How are you playing online without linking your account to microsoft?
How are you playing online without linking your account to microsoft?
My bad. English is not my main language. I will go back to the original post and change it.
I completed the initial Microsoft account link. However I can't seem to be able to log in. Like this user however the code I get is this:
Same issue, code 0029
Also getting error code 0029.
@Alextibtab, your workaround is legally problematic and has been removed.
How to fix 0029?
What a disaster of a launch, and it's not just Linux users that're having issues. I hope Valve can at least get it to launch properly for Linux users soon. I heard Mojang kinda just shrugged when asked about the problems on Linux.
I can't get any window at all, even with the replaced xcurl and the moderator removed alternate proton
same exact issue on linux mint, the game will not start and just gives me the same "missing gaming system services" error
Can confirm same on latest Cachy.
There used to be a link here to a fix, Where is it? anyone know any fixes?
There used to be a link here to a fix, Where is it? anyone know any fixes?
The method used is apparently legally questionable. I couldn't log into my account anyway, best to just wait a bit for Valve to sort it out.
While on the discussion on that error code…
I’m not sure if it’s actually it, but on a discord server that I’m on, there might be a huge influx of players, to the point where the servers might be down
Best to wait first for things to calm down, then if it still doesn’t work, see if valve will try to do anything for it (most likely not, since the issue is caused by missing Xbox DLLs that requires either windows, or a reimplementation, so it’s not proton’s fault)
Also, while I’m not apart of valve myself, I would recommend to give any necessary insight on this issue, rather than just saying that it “doesn’t work for me aswell”, with nothing of value. Just keeps things clean
EDIT: also I found it cool that in less of a day, people managed to get the game playable and running, while just a few hours ago, it didn’t work
The only problem is error code 0029 and maybe 0063, which seems to be caused by cooked servers
Follow-up from CachyOS/Wayland (kernel 7.2.8-1-cachyos-bore; RTX 4080 SUPER, NVIDIA 615.71.09; Steam build 25041023): I reached Settings and entered gameplay for over a minute under Proton Experimental.
Disclosure: this was not a clean stock-Proton success. The install still used the community xgameruntime compatibility shim whose link was removed from this issue by moderation, a compatible XCurl.dll, and a locally completed Microsoft sign-in. I am naming those dependencies so the result is not mistaken for an upstream fix; I am not reposting the workaround or authentication data.
Observed sequence:
Windows.ApplicationModel.Store.Preview.InstallControl.AppInstallManager and RegionPolicyEvaluator WinRT APIs.SteamDeck=1 from Launch Options. Sign-in succeeded, Settings opened, and gameplay was playable for over a minute without a crash. The Proton tool and SteamDeck=1 changed together, so I cannot isolate which change cleared 0063. I have not tested account linking or cloud saves. This is evidence of gameplay under Proton Experimental after local compatibility work, not evidence that a clean install works with stock Proton.
CachyOS + Hyprland user here.
I was looking forward to play this game, I had even pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition.
But then I opened the game, and I discovered it was not working.
All because of the game requiring the "Microsoft Gaming Services", which of course on Linux are not available.
I figured out the crashes I was having when opening the inventory. It was the freaking chicken
(equiping a pet was what was causing my crashes)
oh far out i just came back here and even more solutions got removed
is replacement of xgameruntime in general legally problematic? i realise that <solution for microsoft linking> is just a complete decompilation of it and is definitely not allowed, but i didnt know <custom proton build> had issues
@kisak-valve, can i ask for specifics on what is and isnt allowed (and perhaps some disclosure on what exactly was wrong with those projects)? ive now started working on adding patches to proton itself (besides the xcurl replacement), but if theyre not allowed then this isnt going to work out
also, can i request that people experiencing crashes please share your crash logs
there are a lot of new comments with people mentioning crashes, but no logs in sight
ok just got on my computer is there any update on linking accounts??
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5903389276 @r1sk01
1. The GDK license doesn't allow Microsoft's libraries to be redistributed outside a Windows title. It also doesn't allow their modification outside of internal use or as part of a windows title.
2. The licenses for the wine/proton builds mentioned are all over the place themselves; some bits are CC0, others are GPL3, and some are even proprietary.
Maybe i found what's behind a lot of the random 0063/0064 errors and the "just retry a few times" logins on WineGDK-based setups
In WineGDK - HTTPClientProvider copies the address of the buffer pointer instead of the buffer itself:
XCurl reads the allowed TLS versions from that buffer, so every HTTPS request ends up with a random set of them (sometimes TLS 1.1 only) and roughly half of the handshakes fail with FATAL ALERT: 70 Error in protocol version
With the fix in my test all 43 out of 43 HTTPS handshakes succeeded and LoginWithSteam returned 200 on the first try
It doesn't fix Microsoft account linking: sisu.xboxlive.com/authorize still returns 401 and the game shows 0073. It also doesn't fix the hang on exit. Upstream Weather-OS/WineGDK currently has these functions stubbed, so it isn't affected
Did someone meet 0063\0064 problem outside WineGDK right now? (Note: This isn't the only cause of 0063/0064: on launch day there was server load as well.)
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5905325623 @IntellectualTux
these are all open source reimplementations of it, not redistribution or modification
the licenses for builds does not matter (since we are downloading them straight from their original repos) and the only way they could be legally problematic for valve in specific is if theres piracy involved afaik
CachyOS + Hyprland user here. I was looking forward to play this game, I had even pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition. But then I opened the game, and I discovered it was not working. All because of the game requiring the "Microsoft Gaming Services", which of course on Linux are not available.
Im on Cachy + Hyprland + Caelestia Shell
For me works:
SteamDeck=1Follow-up to my previous comment about the 0063/0064 errors caused by WineGDK HTTPClientProvider bug
I did an A/B test on the same setup with WineGDK to check if 0063/0064 errors is gone: fresh launch, 5 minutes of a WINEDEBUG=+winhttp,+secur32 log.
A (original): 34 of 122 TLS handshakes failed (47% of the XCurl requests). Every failed handshake had no TLS 1.2 in its mask, and every handshake with TLS 1.2 succeeded. LoginWithSteam was sent 9 times, and I only got in on the third login attempt.
B (with the fix): XCurl always gets 0x2aa8, all 54 handshakes succeeded, and LoginWithSteam was sent once, first try login and no problems.
The failure rate varies between runs because it depends on where the buffers land in memory. By the way, in my personal experience: switching to Proton-GE or something after the first launch doesn't completely avoid the bug, because the WineGDK xgameruntime.dll stays in the prefix's system32 and the game keeps using it.
How to apply the fix: make a one-character change in dlls/xgameruntime/GDKComponent/System/Networking/XNetworking.c, around line 60, in HTTPClientProvider() under case GetResult:. Remove the & in front of context->securityInformationBuffer, so the buffer itself gets copied instead of the pointer to it:
memcpy( data->buffer, &context->securityInformationBuffer, context->securityInformationBufferCount );
memcpy( data->buffer, context->securityInformationBuffer, context->securityInformationBufferCount );
Then rebuild xgameruntime.dll (after ./configure --enable-win64, make dlls/xgameruntime is enough) and replace the x86_64-windows/xgameruntime.dll your Wine uses. If the prefix has a copy in drive_c/windows/system32, replace that one too. Close the game completely first: a running process keeps the old DLL loaded.
The game seems to work for me on the Steam Deck, yesterday I tried several workarounds from this thread (<Removed by moderator>, SteamDeck=1, replacing XCurl.dll, etc.) but it ended up crashing after a few minutes of playing.
This morning I saw a game update and set Proton Hotfix to see if something changed, and I played for about 20 minutes with no crashes.
Regarding login, I already had my Steam account linked with Microsoft from windows, so I'm not sure about the state of this right now.

thats good news
They (Mojang) acknowledged the Steam Deck support, which I think also translates to Linux support.
https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/49262033322893-Steam-Deck-Support
We've seen your feedback about Steam Deck support for Minecraft Dungeons II. The team is working on it and we hope to have more to share soon. Thanks for your patience, and keep the feedback coming.
So, if you guys could also vote that thread there it'll help to speed things up (I guess?).
Successfully launched Minecraft Dungeons II and linked Microsoft account.
Arch Linux 7.2.7-arch1-1

Patched Xcurl myself, but apparently the script also can do that
I followed these instructions listed <Removed by moderator>
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5908327333
You shouldn't link my repo here as it was previously removed. Also after testing I don't think the "custom" proton version is necessary either I've gotten the game working with just Proton-GE or Proton Experimental as long as you patch the XCurl.dll
from my experience getting this running last night you need <Removed by moderator> only for first time running it after that point normal proton or proton GE seems to work and likely others

Ah fair my bad, I've removed the link. I think it doesn't need <Removed by moderator> to work, that was just what I had tried and was working for me. Just finished a 1 hour 3 player multiplayer session with friends and didn't experience any issues which is good
I don't expect you to do this but if possible, it would be so much better to have you put this on Proton DB or something of the sort. I have no idea how to myself sadly.
Yeah I've reinstalled again after removing the compatdata for Dungeons II and making sure to clear out any DLLs that GDK put in my shared compatdata then after replacing XCurl.dll it seems to just work on Proton GE or Proton Experimental

Yeah thats a good idea, I can do a report tonight and put it on ProtonDB
I've submitted my steps on ProtonDB but idk when the next refresh will happen I imagine there'll be a flood of posts to it.
@SpherionOS, the workaround you posted is legally problematic and has been removed.
btw I have one trouble, when Im playing, I can't control my character via hold mouse. Anyone know how I can fix it?
Im on CachyOS + hyprland and using GE Proton 11-7
Ubuntu 26.04 + KDE Plasma + Wayland
Launch option SteamDeck=1
GE-Proton 11-7
Patched XCurl.dll
Not working
@CJF2, again, that can not be posted here (directly or indirectly). If you choose to continue, I'll be forced to take action.
So I finally sorted it out. My "Fatal error" crash during startup in Mojang Logo was caused by too restrictive limit on number of open files.
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Steam/Client_troubleshooting#Games_immediately_crash.2Fdon.27t_start
After it's increase, game finally starts with "illegal" Proton version together with proper Xcurl library.
After several login fails, each time different code, it finally allowed me to login. Account linking I did manually using code from generated json file. Worked on first try.
So far I got only one crash, after my first death.
Okay, so it's been brought to my attention that @Alextibtab, you've made an important change to your workaround scripting and because of that, as of right now, it is no longer taboo to use here in discussion.
I can't endorse or encourage the use of any specific workarounds, but in this specific case, it can be mentioned from this point forward.
Besides valve removing the links (probably for a fair reason) I hope this serves as a lesson for future Proton forks and Proton itself; and Valve starts supporting more UWP and Microsoft services soon, this is the proof that M$ is slowly integrating more and more of their services on the Steam versions of their games, and more now with the announcements of possible exclusive Microsoft Store game (NOT release on Steam) it could have a bad future for gaming on linux. we are talking about microsoft, they are going to force it

UWP would be nice, but not necessary in this case because this game is GDK. GDK is a lot easier to work with, UWP translation would pretty much have to be written from scratch.

In any case, the main point stands, Proton needs to support GDK better due to the future that Xbox Game Studios and Microsoft are going to have, both on Steam and the newer "Xbox Exclusives" (which they will release it on PC just only on microsoft store)

IIRC, Proton already has good support for GDK. Minecraft Windows 10 would be better than Android x64 now that it's switched from UWP to GDK, if only the Windows 10 version weren't super unreliable. This specific release just had extra crap that made it not work on install, I don't think it being GDK had anything to do with it.

The actual issue is that they didn't properly embed xgameruntime.dll in the steam build, which the gdk docs say the following about:
Steam games must include
XGameRuntime.dlland its dependencies to support platforms where the system service isn’t available (for example, Steam Deck). On Steam Deck or other non-Microsoft platforms, the Gaming Repair Tool cannot be used. Instead, bundleXGameRuntime.dlland its dependencies in your game package and place them alongside your executable so they can load at runtime.
It's the same issue as FH6, and the fix will be the same aswell, which is just shipping the dll & deps and making some changes to auth to support signing in on non-windows.
WORKING **** Minecraft Dungeons II working on Steam Machine (SteamOS) with <Removed by moderator>
Setup
Device: Valve Steam Machine (2026 edition) running SteamOS
Game: Minecraft Dungeons II via Steam
Fix repo: AdrianMontes0512/Dungeons2_linux_fix
What worked
<Removed by moderator>, which shows up in Steam's compatibility list as "GE Proton 11 7 x86_64".The n tells Wine to use the native DLL supplied by the repo instead of its built in one.
Result
The game now loads and gets past the point where it previously failed to start. Confirmed working on 30 September 2026.
Notes
I did not download a replacement XCurl.dll from a third party DLL hosting site. Those sites are a malware risk, so I only used files from the repo itself.
Hello @VintageGenetics, part of your workaround is legally problematic and has been removed.
mojang is working on a fix as stated in a feature request forum.
I can confirm it working with the latest update! Using GE-Proton-11-1. However: linking Microsoft account does not work yet, or at least it doesn't work for me.
hey yall does this cover compatibility with macos? If so, is there a fix for dungeons 2 on there
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1912410?emclan=103582791475567671&emgid=671755828227736167
Steam Deck update was pushed.
Can confirm that I can now run the game on Bazzite latest build without any workaround(s).
Operating System: Bazzite 44
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.30.0
Qt Version: 6.11.2
Kernel Version: 7.2.7-ogc1.1.fc44.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Worked for me on Proton Experimental no launch options and I'm still linked but I guess that's just cached, I don't see an option in the settings anymore to unlink my account like I did previously.
Can confirm. I think this is a win!
Huh. I Tried the updated version of the game. before i updated i removed the previous prefix and used normal GE-Proton 11-7. tried the updated game and now it just crashes on a black screen. so got curious and tried the Minecraft Dungeons II on Linux patch again and it also just crashes on a black screen. Curiosity killed the game. though im gonna try reinstalling the game and just starting over and see if that works
is there a way to launch the microsoft store version via proton yet?
is there a way to launch the microsoft store version via proton yet?
officially no, and the only workaround is likely legally problematic.
This guy seems to have made a guide on it but im currently stuck with a steam version of it. https://gist.github.com/DasFletchi/1a0da0bd8c12ddc07ba937e5ff2204a0

ok, ty, i hope there is a way soon. maybe like the new bedrock launcher for linux
Also. the latest update of the game broke both ways of me launching it. the patch made by alextibtab doesnt work anymore for me and the latest game update just launches with a black screen and crashes. never making it to the main menu. how are you guys running the latest update of the game? is it proton experimental? or is it launch options?

issue is unrelated to the proton repisotory, however verify game files, remove any DLL's downloaded, and launch the game. said update fixed the game on linux.
I've added an uninstall.sh script to the repo to help remove any DLLs/files from using the install.sh script. Steam needs to be closed for it to automatically remove the launch options. Then you'd just need to verify game files so it downloads the correct XCurl.dll
The list of files you need to delete if doing it manually is:
Minecraft Dungeons II/Dungeons/Binaries/Win64/XCurl.dllMinecraft Dungeons II/xgameruntime.dllMinecraft Dungeons II/xgameruntime.pathMinecraft Dungeons II/Dungeons/Binaries/Win64/xgameruntime.dllMinecraft Dungeons II/Dungeons/Binaries/Win64/xgameruntime.pathThen you also have to delete the DLL from the proton prefix:
/steamapps/compatdata/1912410/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/xgameruntime.dll/steamapps/compatdata/1912410/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/xgameruntime.pathThen you just need to verify game files and remove WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xgameruntime=n" %command% from the launch options.
Unless I am missing it there no longer appears to be an option to link your Microsoft account in the settings.
It seems impossible to link the account at all now... The link button is gone from the settings menu
Game works fine now that they got the new update out, however I'm having a mouse issue with the game on Hyprland ;
When holding left or right click, my mouse position in game doesn't update for several seconds before updating once and freezing again. Which means I can't hold my mouse left click to move and must spam click instead, it also makes the parkour section almost impossible...
I've tried with several proton versions but this issues still persists, anyone having the same problem ?
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5938489151
honestly, i recommend uninstalling the game, swapping to proton experimental, then reinstalling the game
with no launch args and a clean prefix, the game seems to launch way faster, but that may just be me
also, if anyone is having issues with a controller acting as a second player, enabling steam controller support seems to fix it
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5942706931
having the same issue and i just swapped to a controller
it seems like an issue with hyprland itself

Same here. This game is a joke.
The game did not ask me to link a Microsoft account and I could enter online play menu just fine.
Should I claim the preorder "hero pack" or will it be linked to some steam account that's not linked with my main Java Minecraft account and I won't be able to use the cape?

Connect your account using Alextibtab's mod, that'd restore the account link button. It's under this post the was endorsed by the moderator.
@AbbyTheAbsol Can you link to the endorsement comment?
All I can find done by a moderator is removing any mention of, what i assume was Alextibtab and Kubas556 github repo links.

Oh, I see what you mean. Strange, it was here earlier. The moderator comment giving it the ok is still there.
EDIT:
This one a few comments up is still there. You can find it on his GitHub page.

And the endorsement:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/10193#issuecomment-5916487486
Literally, explicitly saying not an endorsement.
Anyone Get this after a fresh install of minecraft dungeons 2 with the new update?
followed by it having hanged application error? this is with GE Proton 10--34 because any proton 11 version just crashes on launch for me. even though i cleaned and reinstalled the game.
Edit: It turns out all my problems after the update was because I was running it all on wayland. Not X11. It works now. Thankfully.
Literally, explicitly saying not an endorsement.
Ah, thanks for the clarification. I misinterpreted.
The update boots the game normally now, but I still couldn't link my account. After linking from a Windows machine the button now shows Log in instead but still doesn't work so I'm stuck logged out of Microsoft, I'm assuming this isn't much different from linking not working.
huh, so the game works now, since the new update
for some reason, i see that the login button is available on my end in the settings, while others dont even see it because of the sign in issues
welp, atleast i got my capes before it was officially fixed ;)

That's what I might do thanks ! What a shame tho, I prefer using a mouse for this kind of games...

Update: This issue is almost fixed when setting the "Action/move" button to a keyboard key and NOT a mouse button weirdly enough. You can then macro the keyboard key to a mouse click and it works 95% of the time but this workaround isn't practical at all.
how can you get your microsoft account linked? im able to play but the linking option isnt in settings... weird.
Some technical notes from static analysis of the installed Windows files (Steam build 25754144 / v1.1.2.0, UE 5.6.1). I have not tested on Linux myself, so treat these as findings about the binaries, not as confirmed Proton behaviour.
Why launch week failed. The exe statically links the GDK XGameRuntime lazy loader. It calls LoadLibraryExW(L"xgameruntime.dll", NULL, 0x800|0xA00), using 0xA00 when HKLM\Software\Microsoft\GamingServices\ForceUseLocalServices is non-zero or when GetPackagesByPackageFamily("Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe") finds nothing, then resolves QueryApiImpl, InitializeApiImpl[Ex[2]], UninitializeApiImpl, XErrorReport. REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG from QueryApiImpl becomes 0x89240107 ("run GamingRepair.exe"). No xgameruntime.dll ships in the game directory. The Steam install script runs GamingRepair.exe scenarioExternal, which needs Windows.ApplicationModel.Store.Preview.InstallControl.AppInstallManager, Windows.Management.Deployment.PackageManager, Windows.Internal.System.Profile.RegionPolicyEvaluator and the GamingServices / GamingServicesNet / InstallService services. That matches the logs posted here. In the current build a failed GDK init is non-fatal.
Other components. XCurl.dll 2604.1 (WinHTTP, CRYPT32, RegisterAppStateChangeNotification, XNetworkingQuerySecurityInformationForUrlUtf16Async, gameplatformservices.dll), libHttpClient.GDK.dll (WinHTTP including WebSockets), GameChat2.dll (WinHTTP WebSockets, xaudio2_9, Windows.Media.MediaControl.dll). Delay-loaded: steam_api64, libcef, d3d12, XAudio2_9Redist, DirectML, MFPlat. Login on the Steam build is Steam ticket -> PlayFab LoginWithSteam -> Minecraft services; the Xbox sign-in branch is not used for login.
Missing Microsoft account link option (re the question above). I found no Wine or Steam Deck check on that path. The first-run link flow is gated on an "account linkable platform" check and an account-link provider that both depend on the GDK runtime module being active, and that module does not initialise without Gaming Services. So the option looks hidden because of a failed dependency, not a deliberate Linux block. Medium confidence: I could not resolve the exact method behind the gate. Linking the account once on Windows carries over, as others have reported.
APIs the exe resolves that are stubs in current Wine (master and Proton 11 trees): wevtapi!EvtSubscribe, EvtCreateRenderContext, EvtClose, EvtRender (a spec-level stub in the Proton trees), iphlpapi!SendARP, advapi32!GetCurrentHwProfileW. I have no evidence that any of these stops the game; listing them in case they relate to the exit hang some people saw.
Launch options. -DisableGDK, -DisableMsaLoginUI, -NoUpdateCheckGDK exist but do nothing useful here: a failed GDK init already takes the same path, and the MSA switch is ignored on the Steam branch. The only place SteamDeck is read is the start-up movie selection.
