Symptoms

The game used to run 100% perfect, until some recent update, now it crashes constantly upon starting/ending a mission. I typically test this with Multiplayer > Co-Op Missions. It has recently gotten so bad that it will not load any missions at all now.

I have tried erasing the compatdata folder and using multiple different Proton versions. Doesn't matter if it's Proton 9, 10, 11, Hotfix, or Experimental, the game has gone from 100% perfect to completely unplayable.

Reproduction

Launch the game and join a multiplayer co-op mission. If it doesn't crash upon first mission load, it will crash upon mission completion. After crashing, subsequent attempts will always crash upon mission load.

Hello @DarthZiplock, we're using one issue report per unofficially supported game title, so I've gone ahead and transferred this issue report to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/3971#issuecomment-6169628809.

If anyone else comes across this issue and this thread, enabling DirectX 12 in the game's video settings appears to solve the crashing.
