Session: Wayland, game running through X11/Xwayland (DISPLAY=:0)
GPU reported by Unity: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti
Input: Razer DeathAdder V2 mouse and keyboard
Reproduction:
Launch the unmodified Steam game with the above Proton version.
Pick up a parcel. Hold the right mouse button and move the mouse: rotation works in normal carrying mode.
Enter stamp mode (F).
Hold the right mouse button continuously and move the mouse.
Expected: the parcel rotates continuously while the right button remains held.
Actual: parcel rotation drops out. Live inspection of game memory shows IsInspecting repeatedly changing between true and false during one continuous right-button hold. Mouse LookValueRaw is frequently zero in stamp mode. No new exception was appended to Player.log during the reproduced attempt.
Controlled workaround verified in the same running game process:
In PlayerInventory.InputManager_OnInspectItemPerformed, only when IsInStampingMode is true, set UnityEngine.Cursor.lockState to CursorLockMode.Locked before the existing handler.
In PlayerInventory.InputManager_OnInspectItemCanceled, only when IsInStampingMode is true, set Cursor.lockState to CursorLockMode.None before the existing handler.
Keep the original parcel inspection logic and input bindings.
Result: the player confirmed parcel rotation worked. Passive samples during the successful test showed inspection staying active and nonzero mouse motion (429 of 448 active-rotation samples). These are irregular change-triggered samples, not frame counts or a benchmark.
A separate test disabling overlapping normal controls in stamp mode did not fix the issue; that experimental change was reverted. The successful workaround captures the cursor while rotating and restores it on release.
Attribution limits:
This establishes that cursor capture is an effective local workaround. It does not prove whether the underlying defect is in Unity, Wine/Proton, or Xwayland integration. No Windows, native Linux build, alternative compositor, or alternative Proton version was tested. No kernel or desktop configuration was changed. Please investigate the unlocked-cursor mouse event path; the locked-cursor path works in this environment.
The local workaround changes the installed GameAssembly.dll and is version-specific. Reproduce without that workaround when collecting a Proton log. This report has not been submitted automatically.
