EDIT: The recent update fixed this issue :+1:

The DLCs of Race 07 don't work. The game has the following expansions:

  • GT Power Expansion (44650)
  • GTR Evolution (8660)
  • Race 07 - Formula RaceRoom Add-On (44630)
  • Race 07: Andy Priaulx Crowne Plaza Raceway (8650)
  • Race Injection (44680)
  • RACE On (8640)
  • The Retro Expansion (44660)
  • STCC II (44620)
  • STCC: The Game (8690)
  • The WTCC 2010 Pack (44670)

These expansions are realized as games with their own App IDs. On Windows, if you install any expansion, it doesn't matter if you start the expansion from Steam or Race 07, Steam will always start Race 07 with all installed expansions and only change the UI design. Since the expansions each get installed to their own folder in compatdata, the expansion launcher can't find the Race 07 executable and the launch will fail.

System Information

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti
  • Driver/LLVM version: nvidia 396.54
  • Kernel version: 4.18.5
  • System specs
  • Proton version: 3.7-5 Beta

Symptoms

  • Almost all expansions crash on launch without an error
  • The "Andy Priaulx Crowne Plaza Raceway" expansions fails with "missing executable: [steam folder]/steamapps/common/race 07/SteamInfoApp.exe"

@felsenhower I am still having this issue on Proton 3.16-4 beta, only main game launches. Can the addons be playable within the game or should be launched seperately?

@leillo1975 Same for me with Driving Force GT.

Force Feedback with proton 4.2-3 does not work yet. It's a pity because the rest of the game works perfect.

Force Feedback with proton 4.2-3 does not work yet. It's a pity because the rest of the game works perfect.

What was said before is not exact. I have noticed the force feedback when the car hits a wall or another car. I don't feel the rest of the effects. Something really strange and disturbing....

Lleillo1975 2019-05-15 github

With the new 4.2-4, there is a little regression. Now the feedback is lost when the car crashes.

The Force Feedback on this game continues not working with 4.11.-1. I tried the V9VK option and it runs fast and correctly

Tried Race 07 the first time. Installed the base game and all available Addons. Game does not start, log is rather short and unfortunately I'm personally not educated enough to understand what's wrong. Any suggestions!?

Update - Proton was updated recently, so I'm now using 4.11-3.

I removed the prefixes that were created for Race 07 and GTR Evo. Then I started Race 07 again from Steam to have the prefix re-created. Afterwards I've used protontricks to increase the Video Memory setting.

Beyond that, I've noticed that folders in the game directory were duplicated because they were created case sensitive during installation. So I've also cleaned up the directory before running the game.

Although I don't know if the last step had any impact on the result, the game started and works well now!

Another update - this time on xbox gamepad/controller (wired)

The game is recognizing the gamepad, but is unable to assign it to the controls. Disabling the xbox controller configuration assistance in Steam's general controller settings solves that problem!

About Force Feedback in this game.
If you use Proton 4.2-9, it works only when you crash with a wall or other car.
With the last version of Proton, 4.11-7, Force Feedback is completely lost.
Please, take a look on this regression

Lleillo1975 2019-11-08 github

New version of Proton (4.11-8) stills breaking Force Feedback in this and a lot of racing games. Other games like:
-Project Cars 2
-Project Cars 1
-GT Legends

I think you must see this article on reddit. Finally we can play RACE 07 with FFB with all the effects on Linux :

Good work @berarma !!!

At the moment only works with Wine or Proton 4.2-9, because Proton 4.11-8 has broken FFB in some games, but in the next version it will be fixed:

I'm getting this error message, about insufficient video memory, while trying to load the game.
I have an nVidia 1070Ti that has a lot more than the required memory (same for other games like GT Leggends)

This can be done when you change proton version. I fix this problem going to config.ini file located in:
""SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/8600/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/SimBin/RACE 07""
Then change "VIDEODRIVER=0" to "VIDEODRIVER=1"

Mmadbad 2019-12-10 github

Strangely enough I dont have a config.ini there.

ls "/home/madbad/mnt/691aef2c-464d-410c-b2d3-3e90f44c15a7/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/8600/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/SimBin/RACE 07"

Hello @madbad, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options and drag and drop the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log into the comment box.

Try to execute the game with another proton versions to generate it. GT Legends ( https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2728 ) has the same proton bug

Lleillo1975 2019-12-14 github

With the last version of proton (4.11-10), and using the @berarma 's new Linux Logitech Wheels Driver (new-lg4ff) , the game has a good Force Feedback. Good Work!

The FFB needs to be inverted to work properly.

Lleillo1975 2021-10-02 github

I found an FFB issue in this game, in GTR2 and GT Legends. When you start a race, you have no problems with Force Feedback on the Logitech G29, but if you restart it two times (sometime three), you lost a lot of effects and the steering wheel offers no resistance, unless you countersteer or crash.
To fix this, you must quit the race, go to menu, and load again the race.
I tried it on Windows and this problem don't appear. Seems to be the same problem in all SimBin games with proton.
