Same happens with Captain Spirit.
Also, there’s no such issue with wine-staging.

Done, I could have sworn I did it the first time. lol

Running the game with PROTON_USE_WINED3D11 gets it to reach the main menu, but clicking anything returns the same fatal error as in the OP.

The key in the log file seems to be wine: Call from 0x7b44abbc to unimplemented function lsteamclient.dll.Steam_ReleaseThreadLocalMemory, aborting

It seems to happen at a somewhat arbitrary point. Second time around I got past the main menu and it started loading the game and fading in the first cutscene, but then the game closed. Same error in the log: Unhandled exception: unimplemented function lsteamclient.dll.Steam_ReleaseThreadLocalMemory called in 64-bit code (0x000000007b44abbc).

The game runs flawlessly (albeit a bit slower than it otherwise would, making it unplayable on my low-end GeForce 940MX) in Lutris (which is basically a wrapper for Windows Steam in Wine w/ DXVK), so this seems to be a Linux-Steam issue.

Feral Interactive are working on a Linux and Mac port for Life is Strange 2.

Quote website Feral Interactive:

Life is Strange 2 is coming to macOS and Linux in 2019.

Its Denuvo btw but runs fine in lutris with dxvk

Update: Now works out of the box without tweaks but an native linux client was already announced.

Runs perfectly in the new beta. I played for about an hour and no issues at all with nothing extra required.

I'm still receiving this error, randomly during the opening cut scene I'll receive a fatal error and it will crash. I couldn't seem to paste my logfile anywhere because it's too large, but I found these which may be relevant in them:

wine: Call from 0x7b43c45c to unimplemented function mscoree.dll.CorIsLatestSvc, aborting
wine: Call from 0x7b44abbc to unimplemented function lsteamclient.dll.Steam_ReleaseThreadLocalMemory, aborting

I know not related to this but Lutris doesn't work for me either, gets to the part where it should show the skateboard while loading and instead just shows black screen perpetually

If you want to play it on lutris disable Esync or use non esync patches like 3.19 instead of tkg-3.19
