Note:

  • I reinstalled the game, but the error remains.
  • I can create files in the '<steam_apps_common>/Sudden Strike 3/Media/Effects' Directory

Workaround:

  • To Launch the Game: protontricks 612540 d3dcompiler_47

Notes:

  • The Intro Video doesn't play, i tried following: protontricks 612540 xvid direct cinepak quartz directshow but none worked. You need to skip the Intro with ESC.
  • with directshow installed, the video will skip directly.
  • with 5.9-GE-5-ST i got only the intro audio working.
