Hello @kode54, please clarify what runtime config options are needed since you indicated that something is needed in that regard.
Sorry, I misread that, I though it said "no runtime options are needed". The only option I needed was manually opening the game's properties and setting it to the latest official Proton, 5.0-9.
Can't say it's totally perfect, I did experience some disappearing polygons during a spectator portion, but that may have been the game itself and not my drivers.
@kode54 Have you noticed any soft lock when qualifying for the next round?
I am consistently getting "Failed to login, please check your connection" after a sometimes very long loading screen. On Windows, on the same PC and network, I am able to play with no issue.
I notice a soft lock only occasionally, and same for failed login. This may be due to an update? I'm not sure.
Either way, I've earned two crowns so far, one from winning my first match, another from reaching a high enough level to win another as a level reward.
@kode54 Have you noticed any soft lock when qualifying for the next round?
I have. At first I thought it was related to an issue with a specific map (Jinxed in particular) but apparently it seems this isn't the problem.
I'll try to gather some logs the next time it gets stuck and report back if I find something.
The soft lock just happened. So far it always happens after 2-3 completed games and after you qualify for the next round.
I cut down the log that I attached because it was 120MB and Github has a limit of 10MB (if necessary I can upload it somewhere else).
After the soft lock I waited 1-2 minutes and then I closed the game with alt+f4.
can also confirm soft lock after a few games at the qualify screen. Though some of my windows friends have experienced it, it happens much more frequently using proton.
No clue if this is specific to my machine, but I do think it's notable as I haven't yet found a fix (trying other Proton versions, updating graphics drivers, etc.): characters don't render at all. Every other aspect of the game renders and works completely fine, it's just the characters themselves.
I'm running Fedora 27 (I know it's long out of date, I've been slowly working on backing things up so I can update, I just need to be sure my system won't break), and the game runs perfectly fine on my Windows 10 install on the same machine.
@TheWaffleDimension can you show a screenshot?
Hello @TheWaffleDimension, please copy your system information from Steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.
There seems to be a problem where after X matches, game is broken on the qualified screen (The graphics are not frozen, looks more like a connection problem). Have seen more of these reports on ProtonDB. Any idea of what could it be or how to fix it?
@alosarjos I've seen streamers also affected with the issue, and they use Windows. It seems that the developers should be contacted for these cases.
@alosarjos I've seen streamers also affected with the issue, and they use Windows. It seems that the developers should be contacted for these cases.
I've been playing with friends for a couple of hours, my game had the softlock 4 times, them none. So seems like maybe Proton is handling this error worse or something... Kinda annoying when playing with friends.
UPDATE: Have played for some hours on a Windows boot. Not happening a single time. There is definitely a problem in Proton.
I can also confirm that it's an issue with Proton, I play with some friends and the one that's using Windows does not have this issue while my other friend and I have to restart it after ~10 games to avoid the problem, I have played for 43h and I always get soflocked after ~10 games if I don't restart the game but the friend that's using Windows hasn't experienced this after playing for around 30h, I'm not saying it's not possible but it might only happen very very rarely on Windows while it's really consistent with Proton.
Also there is another very minor issue that only happens in Block Party and Roll Out, every so often a black outline of the rollers (they probably use invisible rollers or something similar in Block Party) will flash on the screen for a frame, it's not a big issue and rarely happens, the game works perfectly otherwise.
I've noticed this too, it appears to coincide with
recv failed for host {15}, error {676}. Host will be closed maximum hosts cannot exceed {16}
@TheWaffleDimension can you show a screenshot?
Hello @TheWaffleDimension, please copy your system information from Steam (
Steam->Help->System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.
I've gone ahead and finished backing up files, then updated to Fedora 28. I still have yet to get time to upgrade the rest of th way up, but everything is now rendering correctly. I'm not sure what the issue was, maybe there was a package update available in 28 that wasn't in the 27 repos?
Either way, issue is resolved, so you can ignore that rendering problem.
I am also having these softlock
They only happen when you show the classifieds (to happen (more often) more when I literally go to the final round and everything was going well (I haven't won yet ;-; )) or stop finding a match
The animations continue without any problem but it is consecrated in that area
And only decide if Alt + F4
My System: https://gist.github.com/SergioGlorias/3dbd4efc4dd9ae660e21632eff61a734
I also played until I gave the softlock (when I was going to the last round) using the active DEBUG but I can't send the log to the gist because it's too heavy and the browser breaks the page (I still can't read logs :/ )
I can't say I've experienced any lengthy soft lock, I've also won three crowns from Linux. But I usually have poor luck these days, I've played at least 30 other episodes without winning more than participation prizes. I have also leveled up to 18 with the fame thus far.

I am also not lucky but as I am in the middle of the match and I am in solftlock I am not lucky enough to move on to the next stage and I think I also lose XP and the battel coins goes
If it is a softlock to find a match, I can leave the game in normal mode, but if the way to start is with Alt + F4
this solftlock seems to me as if the game lost its connection to the system and does not notify
I can also confirm soft locks on the "qualified screen". For me, it seems to happen around every 40 minutes game time. I have to Alt + F4 like others.
Here's my system info
Here's the last 99999 log lines
I had testing the proton in the beta version "next" and continued the same problem
smooth wheel game taking out the softlock
I get freezes when alt tabbing in and out of the game, bringing up the steam overlay. I'm on Kubuntu 20.04 with the latest stable Nvidia drivers
Now, after today's annoying mandatory maintenance period, the game seems to have stopped working.

The game it’s working fine for me with the exception I mentioned earlier.
@kode54 can't reproduce that.
Okay, I hear from someone else who had the same issue, they temporarily fixed it by forcing WineD3D, and then by scanning their logs, they tracked it down to SteamVR, which they promptly removed. I have no idea why I'd even have SteamVR installed, or how it would have gotten installed, if that's the case.

same crash here, I only upgraded mesa...

It appears to be specific to the Vulkan driver installed. Are you running Mesa Git? I didn't feel like bisecting this one, so I'll just report it to them and let someone there bisect it instead.

Thanks, at least at commit https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/commit/612ef74190ca6c4d036e014e5fc228b671513771 the game works as intended again.
Thanks for bisecting, I was going to do it tonight if nobody else got around to it sooner. I mentioned the range of commit hashes on Mesa's tracker. Oh well, nice work.
The issue was observed in Nvidia drivers as well.
With vulkan-icd-loader 1.2.151.r14 I am observing the same dialogue box as mentioned by other users and game crashes, reverting back to vulkan-icd-loader 1.2.151.r10 fixed it for me.
Hello @0x221e, the previously discussed crash was a single day regression in bleeding edge mesa drivers. Since the regression you're seeing has the same upstream version, you've encountered a distro-specific issue that should be reported to your distro's package maintainer for vulkan-icd-loader.
@kisak-valve Didn't knew that. Thanks for the information. Will update at required forum.
The game might stop working, because of (a proper) anti-cheat system being implemented:
We're really sorry about the cheating problem!
We're expanding the current detection system this week to improve things
We also have a BIG update in the next couple of weeks that adds the same anti-cheat used by games such as Fortnite
Thanks for bearing with us!

If they decide to use EAC, i hope they activate support for wine64/wine32 just like Squad does. Or perhaps someone from valve can convince them to use wine friendly anticheat solution. My son love this game, i don't want to install windows just for Fall Guys :(
They could release it on Linux and use the Linux version of EAC, I doubt that they are going to do it but you never know, it’s not impossible to do using Unity, not sure if they use any problematic middleware.
I know I can’t do anything, but when I knew I opened a ticket on the support
They responded with a generic message:
https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/9739913/92455053-21691500-f1b9-11ea-806a-79ddfbdbf331.jpg
But who knows they hover
I confirm that today's update, which added Easy Anti-Cheat, made the game stop working on Linux. If there's any useful log I can give you let me know

This is extremely unfortunate. I praised this game for its lack of Anti-Cheat Spyware solution and it's seemingly Linux-friendly developers. Shame.

In short i am on opensuse tumbleweed 5.8.7-1-default on a lenovo x220 16g ram much ssd disk free
I have the same problem on 2 different equal machines
I had to add this option to make the game launch, which it does fine now my son even completed a game with this invisible player!!:
This option makes the game run : PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
This screenshot says it all - there should be the player in the middle of the screen, but he is missing ...???...

There are many errors below - not sure where to begin, and then again - the game mainly works?? Well except i do not see the players :-)
<System information omitted, please see [#4207](/issue/ValveSoftware/Proton/4207)>
So @thsnielsen you are able to play the game despite the new anti-cheat update which broke the game for most players?
@tronje I only tested on your remark above, and after the easy anti cheat was installed, i get "Anti-cheat is not initialized" when i press play. I never tested play after anti cheat was installed, because of the missing graphics of the player. So though it looks the same to me, it looks like i have one more problem now - the anti cheat :-/
Have a good day
If you contact MediaTonic support they will tell you they will bring up the issue internally.
So I suggest, everyone who wants to play this game -again- sent them a support request! This game was perfectly playable, I did not face the missing puppet at the start screen and since EAC was implemented the game just does "not" work.
Yes, but you're still talking about the difference between eliminating a lot of mass cheating from the large Windows audience, and the relatively small user base of Linux users being collateral damage.
Though, it may be worth their effort to try pushing a Linux native client, since EAC does sort of work in Linux. Or doing like one other game I can't think of the name of off hand that whitelisted Wine with their EAC system, which either sort of works or doesn't work? I'm not really sure.
There are better ways to achieve "anti-cheat" solutions than to police in the users end.
I reached out to MediaTronic after reading the comment by @sfjuocekr, and I got an OK on sharing their response here:
Hello Rune,
Thank you for reaching out to Fall Guys player support.
Sadly, after the inclusion of EAC, Linux OS users won't be able to play the game again.
But not to worry, I'll make sure to bring this up to the Dev team for review. We continue to monitor how the game is working for everyone and strive to bring out improvements for your best experience, and this serves as a reference.Please bear with us since some changes might take some time, as it can be a work in progress. You may stay tuned for updates via social media. https://twitter.com/FallGuysGame
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Followup:
As I mentioned before, right now, after the inclusion of EAC, Linux OS users won't be able to play the game using the previous workaround by using Proton.
Also, rest assured that I have already relayed this matter with the Dev team for review. Although I can't guarantee any immediate changes within the game.
Thank you for your kind understanding.
:crossed_fingers:
It's almost 2021,why not eac white list support proton.

I have been using Steam Play using Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (Focal Fossa). I have just purchased (12/25) Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout and I am experiencing three issues I hope to resolve.
Can you please help me get these issues resolved? Steam will not allow me to refund it.
Still unplayable due to anti-cheat error. Waste of money. Could someone please update this issue description to clearly state it is unplayable?
EAC now has Proton support. Let's all ask for MediaTonic to enable Proton support!
EAC has proton support? Link? :eyes:
I sent a message on their support: https://support.fallguys.com. Maybe if more people contact them asking, they'll make it work again (i.e., enable the easy anti cheat Proton support).
They said they would forward it to the devs

I had also contacted them about it a year ago, we will have to "wait" and see if they can be bothered with us Linux users :(
Don't use the word Linux, say "Valve Deck", and you'll magically become a special user!
Oh yea, good idea!
I've just received an update of FallGuys and I looked at the depot and the easyanticheat_x64.so file is inside.
I've already tried to run with Proton7, ProtonGE7.2, and Proton experimental without any success. Anyone with better luck?
That file alone isn't enough, it needs to be enabled on the dashboard too.
Here is my debug log.
steam-1097150.log
They already did the "hard" part, why aren't they doing the easy part of enabling EAC on the dashboard?
@matteoturini it was also done, but it hit another problem. https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/pull/2516
@braiam the game hangs before any dxvk log output. People keep saying that shared resources are the issue, although there is no evidence.
@matteoturini it was also done, but it hit another problem. doitsujin/dxvk#2516
merged 3 days ago, lets see if this works
Is that issue why the game just hangs during the EAC loading splash screen?
Just tested the latest DXVK master, unfortunately that PR does not seem to fix it by itself. However, a custom Wine branch was linked in the PR with some patches regarding shared resources; gonna try and test those as well.
EDIT: Those patches did not work either. Seems there's more to be done.
Some people said that the .so file is in the wrong location. Can you try to copy it to the same folder as EasyAntiCheat.dll. Although I don't think that the hack to inject the .so file will work cause it looks for EasyAntiCheat_x86.dll and EasyAntiCheat_x64.dll

The .so file is already in the same location.

There is a file at: FallGuys_client_game_Data/Plugins/x86_64/EasyAntiCheat.dll
They need to enable the Linux Client Module on the EAC developer portal, this is the reason why EAC does not load any further.
Fall Guys is working with the help of bleeding_edge proton, moving around the .so file and editing a configuration file.
Not here. It always gives me the "Missing Files" error and terminates.
Same here, I keep getting that error. Guessing it has to do with the .ini edit.
Semi-related, do we know why exactly the FallGuysEACLauncher.exe executable doesn't render the splash image or launch the game properly?
There is no need for bleeding-edge anymore. Now it's working for me with Experimental.
Here is the needed tinkering: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/tr0dwo/comment/i2l2bo3/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
All the following has to happen:
TargetApplicationPath=FallGuys_client_game.exe replacing whatever was set before.Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/4123#issuecomment-1085229447
Yes, I have done all of these things, including linking my Epic account and making sure that the EAC runtime and game were in the same Steam library folder; however, none of these seemed to work. Still running on Proton Experimental bleeding-edge.
@TheEssem did you check your launch options?
Yes.

Verify the files and then make sure to make the edits and copying the so file again. Make sure Proton AntiCheat Runtime is installed. It's not obvious, you have to click tools in the library to see it.
Also check if ~/.cache/com.epicgames.easyanticheat/591/ exist (or /.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/cache/com.epicgames.easyanticheat/591 in steam flatpak) and contain these 3 files:
@rezzafr33 that's the download cache, the files must reside on steamapps/common/Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime/
Tried verifying the files, installed Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime, made sure that directory existed - everything seems to line up. I have no idea what could be causing this besides the edit to the .ini file.
Is the file name typoed? TargetApplicationPath=FallGuys_client_game.exe
Nope - if it was typoed, the game wouldn't even launch.
@rezzafr33 that's the download cache, the files must reside on
steamapps/common/Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime/
I didn't talk about Proton EAC Runtime, those files are Fall Guys's linux eac modules and log, to verify that the runtime actually run, 591 is Fall Guys's eac id.
edit: add image for clarity

Yeah, I think I'm missing the .cache files, or at least the Flatpak install's equivalent. I'll look at the non-Flatpak install folder and see if I can grab them there, so I don't have to reinstall the game.
Yeah, I have the exact .cache files in my Flatpak storage. Completely blew the game away and redownloaded, made the changes, still Missing Files.
Maybe this game doesn't like Arch Linux.
Yeah, I have the exact .cache files in my Flatpak storage. Completely blew the game away and redownloaded, made the changes, still Missing Files.
Can you try with non Flatpak steam?
Using non-flatpak steam on manjaro, the game runs flawlessly for me after the work around, pretty consistently around the fps cap of 300, lowest I've seen it is 250. Working better for me than it did before they added easyanticheat.
Tried verifying the files, installed Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime, made sure that directory existed - everything seems to line up. I have no idea what could be causing this besides the edit to the .ini file.
Quoting a user report from protonDB
"To get the game to launch, alongside moving eac.so and editing FallGuys_client.ini, I had to:
Link Epic Games account with Steam account
Install Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime and Proton Experimental with bleeding-edge enabled
disable all launch options
There is also an issue with the Epic Games installer that causes the game to show the missing files error upon launch. To fix this:
Delete Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1097150
Open Fall Guys
Cancel the second step of the Epic Online Services installer Now every time you launch the game make sure to cancel this installer when it appears or the process will have to be repeated.
"
Okay yeah, after doing the EOS installer thing I can launch the game - but when I attempt to get past the title screen, an infinite loading screen appears.
@TheEssem you check that your environment variables are clean? There isn't any stray env in the steam script.
Seems like they are, I can't find anything weird.
@TheEssem Your Epic account must be linked to your Steam account, which can be done via the Epic Store website.
It's already linked. I've done literally every step listed in this thread and am still having issues.
If it helps any for testing, I'm on EndeavourOS KDE.
@TheEssem well, the before nuclear option is to create a new user and try to play there. That would mean downloading steam, fall guys, proton, etc. again.
Deleted .local/share/Steam and deleted .cache/com.epicgames.easyanticheat and reinstalled everything from scratch. Followed the steps before launching the game. Still no go. I'll just play from Windows, like I usually do.
And this better not be some crap like it only supports approved desktop environments.
Works for me but crash sometimes and I don't know why. Anyone had this problem ?
It has been stable experience for me, maybe worth to post a log.
I know but PROTON_LOG=1 do not work and I don't know why.
@rjousse18 Do you remember to put %command% afterwards if you are using it as a launch option in steam?
Nothing shows up in your home folder? You can also try specifying a specific folder for the log to be dumped into by also adding PROTON_LOG_DIR= and then the directory path
Yep i put %command%, I will try PROTON_LOG_DIR after work
Log file ended with this line : pid 166796 != 166795, skipping destruction (fork without exec?)
@rjousse18 you could attach it entirely on this issue, but the last hundred should be ok for start. tail -n 100
Preferably the whole log.
That line is usually just something it writes when the game it shut down so is not bad on it's own.
Nothing in particular catches my eye.
Can you upload the whole log?
Also are you able to make a steam systems report?
I have 3 million lines on the log file...
What is steam system report ?
Oh sorry i misunderstood, i thought you were crashing before getting into the game, not while playing my bad. Ye that would be a big log then and the whole one isn't needed i suppose.
When you go into steam -> help -> system information, it will generate some text with a bunch of information info about your system. If let it run for at least 10 seconds and then copy the text into a github gist or a text file.
This is my system info
And yes the game crash in game and not on startup. I have the feeling that it crash just on specific mini-games
@rjousse18 Which ones? I can try to reproduce here a bit later when i have time
I think it's in the mini game where we have to count the fruits and the one where we have to remember the plates with the fruits on them and sometime it crash juste like that
Roger.
On another note, something seems a bit weird about your GPU drivers.
In one place it looks like your 32 bit vulkan driver isn't loaded correctly and it also seems like you have amdvlk installed? Although it looks like it's also in a broken state.
Could you try installing the stable GPU drivers from your distro and see if it makes a difference? I see you have the 22.1.0-devel.
I would also try to rid amdvlk if you can.
Can you explain me how can I fix this problem with my driver ? maybe i messed up with my driver installs and I don't see what i need to remove/install
I am not familiar enough with Zorin/Ubuntu based distros to be comfortable giving driver support hehe.
Maybe contact your distros community.
For reference the lines in your log i was eyeing was
This is where the 32bit vulkan driver usually shows loaded. Your 64 bit shows mesa fine.
"graphics-details" : {
"x11/vulkan" : {
"messages" : [
"WARNING: lavapipe is not a conformant vulkan implementation, testing use only."
],

"version" : null,
"issues" : [
"cannot-load",
"timeout",
"cannot-draw"
],
"exit-status" : 124,
"devices" : [
]
And this under the vulkan icd's.
amd_icd are the amdvlk ones which are amd's own open source vulkan driver. The ones named radeon_icd are the mesa radv vulkan driver. The latter are usually recommended for gaming.
"vulkan" : {
"icds" : [
{
"json_path" : "/etc/vulkan/icd.d/amd_icd32.json",
"error-domain" : "g-file-error-quark",
"error-code" : 4,
"error" : "Failed to open file '/etc/vulkan/icd.d/amd_icd32.json': No such file or directory",
"issues" : [
"cannot-load"
]
},
(same for 64 bit one)
Skimming over @rjousse18's system information, I suspect that apt config-protected a couple vulkan icd .json files in /etc/vulkan/icd.d and the system most likely had AMDVLK installed in the past, but not anymore with the vulkan icds left over from then. ~The mesa-vulkan-drivers:i386 package is also not installed,~ EDIT: /usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/radeon_icd.i686.json exists, so that is wrong but since the game runs at all, both those details are most likely unrelated to the game stability issue you're troubleshooting.
I would check if any system package owns /etc/vulkan/icd.d/amd_icd32.json and /etc/vulkan/icd.d/amd_icd64.json before cleaning them up.
Okay yeah, after doing the EOS installer thing I can launch the game - but when I attempt to get past the title screen, an infinite loading screen appears.
Same here on Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS. Tried a fresh install but all I get is the infinite loading screen. I noticed the cursor reacts to certain positions on that screen though. Clicking where the cursor turns into a hand seems to change the positions the cursor reacts to, so I suspect there's an invisible UI.
I think that is epic overlay, have the same invisible UI when trying to show friend's list via shift+F3.
Here's a log from a version that isn't even passing startup and gets the Missing Files error, every time:
steam-1097150.log.xz.zip
I have the same issue.
Deleted Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1097150 opened Fall Guys but I always get the missing files error
From what I've gathered from people who managed to get it working:
Steps 2 and 3 are automated by protonfixes, at least for Glorious Eggroll as of a recent update to their Proton package.
I have tried manually applying the methods and using "Proton-GE GE-Proton7-17".
I still get the missing files error.
Also I dont see any EOS setup anything I even manually checked process running
I deleted the prefix.
I chose Proton GE/experimental. I checked all the files (the ini and the so).
I clicked on run. Steam seems to install "EAC" and "VCRedist" into the prefix.
I get the missing files. I dont see anything about a setup. Nothing else pops up at all. Just the game saying "Missing files"
I checked the prefix and theres some log files for "EOSInstaller".
It says
Quiet enabled. So how do I stop it from installing if its installing quietly?
How did guys get it to run? I even manually checked for processes, deleted all Epic files from theprefix, reinstalled, tried using both flatpak, non-flatpakd yet i always get the "Missing files"
@babafc for me I just run. No issues. I'm on ArchLinux btw, using normal steam.
Can you outline explicitly the steps you did?
I copied common/Fall Guys and compatdata/1097150 elsewhere, told Steam to "uninstall" the game and started it pristine.
FallGuys_client.ini file so it says TargetApplicationPath=FallGuys_client_game.exe. Run again, it should appear a installation of EAC. Wait until that finishes, the game should "crash" eventually. You should see your screen freeze while it tries to start.FallGuys_client_game_Data/Plugins/x86_64This presumes that Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime is installed and you are using Proton 7.0 @babafc
This isn't going to matter much in a month anyway, as Fall Guys is moving to Epic Games Store as a Free To Play title with freemium season progression options. Though it doesn't look like there's a whole lot of excitement over the pre-registration thing they've put up.
Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/4123#issuecomment-1128210058
I tried that. Step by step. For both Flatpak and Non Flatpak. Still the same "Missing Files" error.
@babafc did you have installed Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime?
- While it's doing the first time setup, you need to cancel out the step that installs the as-yet not working Epic Online Services component.
- You'll then need to repeat step 5 every single time you launch the game.
@kode54 Do you think this could be the reason why it keeps loosing connection in game?
After some time of playing game starts freeze and unfreeze with some periodicity. I tried to use proton ge and experimental, but get the same result on both. After unfreeze interface gets broken, like on screenshots.
Launch options: "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_LOG=1 %command%"

There is log of game, with 2 freeze and unfreeze cycles.

Looks like that it helped for a little, game still freezes after some time, but now it happens after more time.
UPD: Well, no, it didn't help. Now game freezes like before.
I fixed my installation by triggering a reinstall of Epic Online Services Overlay, verifying my game files and/or moving the game from one disk to another (I don't know which one caused it).
Runs fine with GE-Proton7-22 and these launch options: PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 WINEFSYNC_FUTEX2=0 %command%
Edit: no need for launch options.

I tested it before reinstalling Epic Online Services but it was freezing while loading the menu.
I tried everything described above, but got the same result that I wrote about...
The game no longer works for me on arch, So i followed the guide in #6051 and installed the custom fixed glib, The game did not launch with proton experimental but when i tried proton-ge 7-20 the game opened, The game had an error saying eos was not installed which is normal (i have to click cancel on eos first time setup), I closed the game and deleted compatdata folder to trigger the eos install again but it didn't show up (Yes i am 100% sure i deleted the correct folder) so after i closed the game again it longer opens at all...
Also i had to use this launch option for the game to get past the eac loading screen: PROTON_EAC_RUNTIME="/home/$USER/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime/" %command%
Also running the game version from epic games with heroic launcher beta works without issues
Quick update: after i reinstalled the game i forgot to change the ini file again so after i did that the first time setup ran but it didn't show the eos installer and nothing ever came up
I followed this guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/w3y2v4/guide_to_install_fall_guys_from_epic_games_with/
It says you have to install the EOS overlay manually.

That's for heroic games launcher tho, not steam
I have 2 consistent crashes. One when Hoop Chute is selected, the game completely freezes. The second is on Blastlantis when a blast ball explodes while being held.
Anyone else having these issues?
It's failing with the Missing Files issue again.
Workaround: Hitting cancel on part 2 of the the EOS installer fixed the missing files error for me.
I only did it because I remembered something similar vaguely from a fall guys linux guide somewhen last year. I haven't tested hitting cancel during part 1 nor have I tried finding out what happens if I don't cancel the installer that shows up every time I open the game.
Yeah, seeing the missing files error that you mentioned as well
Same here. Says missing files on both Steam and EGS. Super annoying.
same here. error missing files xD
To fix the missing files issue, you have to add DOTNET_BUNDLE_EXTRACT_BASE_DIR="" %command% to the launch options on Steam. The EOS dependencies will update on the next launch and everything will be fine. Removing it will make the error return, even after the dependencies update.

Because Proton is meant to be used with Steam games. Outside of Steam you use Wine.

Do everything you see in the video. Make sure the check boxes match for enabling the EAC runtime, disabling battleeye, etc. Set the exe to run to be the same as mine, and make sure the launch option is the same. It should work. You likely didn't select the exe to run if the game doesn't start at all.

That's the alternate exe, which is correct. The game arguments are at the very bottom.
Okay, so you must have installed the dependencies already and for some reason it's not updating on its own. You'll have to force it to instead. Do the following:
• Press the "run exe on prefix" button. Your game folder should open.
• In there is a folder called EpicOnlineServices. Open that and select the exe inside, which should be EpicOnlineServicesInstaller.exe
• Nothing will happen. That's normal. Try to run the game again and the dependencies should update.
That should fix it.

Since the Tool Up update in early November, the game has been giving me low framerates. I could easily get my monitor's cap of 170 before, but since this it's been at either 40-50 FPS or sometimes 20-30. At one point disabling vsync got me back up to the 40-50 range but that was short lived.
I can't say for sure if this is a proton problem specifically but I'd hope if it's in the game itself they would have fixed it by now.

Is it proton experimental bleeding edge?
Proton experimental should work, as it is based on Proton 9, but on the latest Steam releases you should find on the compatibility list a 'Proton 9.0 (Beta)'
Current as of this post build of 9.0 beta hangs during starting the game now. The Easy Anti-Cheat splash screen doesn’t even show up. It’s currently working fine with GE-Proton 9-2.
This issue was probably fixed again by Proton Experimental bleeding edge beta, similar to the .NET launcher in Borderlands GOTY Enhanced.
And now the game is crashing regularly on Arch. I can attach a dump the game made, but it probably won't help anything.
And now the game is crashing regularly on Arch. I can attach a dump the game made, but it probably won't help anything.
I continue to have no issues with the game, even when I was using the first beta version of Proton 9. It's something in your system configuration. Try using GE-Proton9-4.
Edit:
I've never experienced those FPS issues either until about a week ago when I switched from X11 to Wayland. Switching back fixed it. So that's worth noting. But that wasn't exclusive to Fall Guys, every game had the same awful performance on Wayland for me.
Yes, I'm using Wayland, and I have a mixed DPI setup, so it's not really fun using Xorg.
Adding the -force-d3d12 switch to command line arguments seems to have stopped the crashing for now.
I can confirm that the current version of Proton 9 has this game running fine on both Nobara KDE 39 as well as the current version of ChimeraOS.
Ryzen 5 3600 + RX5700XT for the ChimeraOS box and Ryzen 5 5600x + 6600xt for the Nobara box.
The crash I experienced was caused by upstream kernel commit a6ff969fe9cbf369e3cd0ac54261fec1122682ec, which was backported to 6.8.9, and affects only AMD GPUs with Resizable BAR disabled. A tentative fix is in 6.9-rc7 that doesn't involve reverting it completely, and I'll be testing it.
Somehow, forcing Direct3D 12 with -force-d3d12 switch also made it less likely to crash under these conditions, but it still wasn't perfect.
(I only had Resizable BAR disabled because Gigabyte on this board apparently defaults CSM to enabled now.)
Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/4123#issuecomment-2096951504
Yep it crashes for me with proton-tkg and proton GE.
It affects AMD iGPUs as well even if it isn't using it.
In this case, I don't think the game is at fault. It more than likely stems from AMD's drivers, because Nvidia and Intel GPUs are not affected. However it can also be something more generic, like the Unity engine or Easy Anti Cheat. You should try running games that feature both of those things and see if you can produce a similar crash with your AMD GPUs. It might give you something specific to focus on since the problem is unlikely to be Fall Guys itself.
Ninja edit:
@Laitinlok
The crash was mentioned to affect AMD GPUs that are not using resizable BAR. So in the case of your IGPU, that behavior would be expected. I don't know anything about rebar support when it comes to IGPs, but if possible see if you can enable it.
Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/4123#issuecomment-2106112100
I disabled the laptop's hybrid mode and it works fine now with just the nvidia gpu. And the issue seems to affect 6.8.8 kernel as well with OpenSuse.
As I said, this is a kernel issue affecting AMD GPUs when you're forced to use limited RAM BAR, ie. no Resizable BAR. The issue is in 6.9 and backported to 6.8.9 and to 6.6.30. It's fixed post 6.9-rc7, and will be fixed post 6.8.9, and presumably backported to 6.6 as well.
Anyone here having issues with the Steam Deck that 1 core is hitting 100% cpu usage during matchmaking and 70+% cpu usage on 2 of my cores on my laptop with an AMD CPU, causing extremely high temperatures.
How do I disable the voice chat feature of the game? It permanently switches my Bluetooth headset into HFP/HSP mode for the duration of gameplay, and there's no way to disable this in Wireplumber any more.

I used to have a similar issue on my computer a while back. I don't remember which game update resolved it but it hasn't happened in a long time. There was never 100% CPU usage on one core. Just elevated enough during matchmaking to get the fans going. This is a game bug, not a Proton bug.

As I've said, this is not a Proton bug but rather a Fall Guys bug. If you search around you'll find examples like this all over the place. There is nothing we can do about it. MediaTonic is aware of the issue I'm sure, because it's been mitigated or fixed for most users by this point. It's probably just some anti cheat verification running before it connects you to a game. That's what seems the most likely, seeing as it only occurs for a few seconds and only when you first queue up for a match.
Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/4123#issuecomment-2177234597

Try using GE-Proton. Keep the launch option there, verify the game files which will reset the install script, then click play when it's done. I've used both of those Proton versions and it has worked just fine. I'm currently using GE-Proton9-20 but I've used every GE version since 7.x, because I keep it up to date, and they've all worked.
I was having the same "MISSING FILES!" issue for a few days. Tried many things and nothing worked for me. Seeing the logs at ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1097150/pfx/drive_c/ProgramData/Epic/EpicOnlineServices/EOSInstaller/Logs/EOSInstaller-*.log, there was an error during EAC installation:
FApplication: MSI completed with MSIError1603
FApplication: Run completed with MSIError1603
What did it for me was changing ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Fall Guys/FallGuys_client.ini with TargetApplicationPath=EpicOnlineServices\\EpicOnlineServicesInstaller.exe. The I started the "game" (the Epic Service, in this case) through Steam with DOTNET_BUNDLE_EXTRACT_BASE_DIR="" %command% and, when it finished, the latest logs had FApplication: Run completed with Success.
So I rolled back FallGuys_client.ini to TargetApplicationPath=FallGuysEACLauncher.exe and removed the launch options. Now the games is working again, without an issue since.
Another workaround for the EOS installer not working for me is to cancel the EOS install step.

Because you need to install it...
Add DOTNET_BUNDLE_EXTRACT_BASE_DIR="" %command% to your launch options then verify the game files and run it. That's all you need to do.

Since today's update the game runs fine, however when I try to jump into the game, it is searching for players, but then it drops me to the main menu (by default it should take me to the loading screen and load an actual match) without any error messages.
It might be the potential fault of EasyAntiCheat that received an update.
Logs from Proton available here (sending a link to my cloud as the file is quite big): https://nch.pl/s/9bHZj4wpJBDm9dk
Just try to open the game and join any online match. The game will return player to the main menu.
I am having the same issue. Doesn't even work with GE-Proton9-23.
No launch options, verified files, tried Proton GE and hotfix, cannot join any games. The game will start but it cannot be played. So I guess launch options aren't needed anymore to get the game to boot but it doesn't matter anyway because you can't get into a match regardless.

MISSING FILES!error
Regarding my post back from December - back then I've tried bunch of things that you've suggested but to no avail. I was still getting that error.
Fast forward to today, on the same computer and setup, with everything up-to-date, did a fresh install of Steam version of the game with no launch options, Proton Experimental selected - everything works out of the box! Also works fine with gamescope (on X11).
My only complain would be that after closing the game and even after closing Steam there are bunch of leftover processes still running in the background:
Although I doubt it's an issue related with this game specifically.
Looks like Epic Online Services overlay 1.3.1 broke the overlay entirely under Proton, both under Steam and the Epic version running under Heroic. It's impossible to play multiplayer parties with friends this way, but I guess most people don't test this.
First game I found that doesn't work with the new PROTON_USE_WOW64=1 option. Edit: It's the Easy AntiCheat, actually. Games with EAC are not working with WoW64 at the moment.
Hey, @kode54. I was finally able to get Epic Online Services to work here.
(Re)Install Epic Online Services:
protontricks-launch --no-runtime --appid 1097150 ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/'Fall Guys'/EpicOnlineServices/EpicOnlineServicesInstaller.exe
Add this key HKCU\SOFTWARE\Epic Games\EOS\UserHelper with value Path and data C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Epic Online Services\EpicOnlineServicesUserHelper.exe to the registry:
protontricks --no-runtime --command 'wine reg.exe add "HKCU\\SOFTWARE\\Epic Games\\EOS\\UserHelper" /v Path /d "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Epic Games\\Epic Online Services\\EpicOnlineServicesUserHelper.exe"' 1097150
I was searching for "overlay" in the logs and ended up matching two files. The first one was %AppData%/LocalLow/Mediatonic/FallGuys_client/Player.log which had the overlay issue itself, but the cause:
LogEOSOverlay (Warning): OverlayPath registry key not found
LogEOSOverlay (Info): Overlay will not load, because the binary's path is not configured
LogEOSOverlay (Warning): Failed to initialize overlay module: PATH_NOT_CONFIGURED
And there was %AppData%/Local/Epic Games/Epic Online Services/Bootstrapper/Logs/EOSBootstrapper.log, which didn't have a meaningful match, but the context around it was very helpful:
[Verbose] FWindowsPlatform::TrySetEnvironmentVariable: Trying to set environment variable: 'EOS_OVERLAY_ENABLE_VULKAN_WIN64=1'

Based on that, I though that this SOFTWARE\Epic Games\EOS\UserHelper registry key was the issue, but I couldn't find a UserHelper.exe anywhere in the prefix. So I reinstalled Epic Online Services, and now there was one. I added the key manually, and the game launched with EOS Overlay. Now, the logs show this:

I have a working overlay helper, but I have a different problem:

You don't need launch options for the Steam version to work anymore.
Weird, I also have this "Unable to resolve Epic account id to product user id" message, but it still logs in successfully, and I can see and interact with my friends via the Overlay. I didn't have any "Hot key event ignored" warning, though.

No launch options here, just Proton Experimental as an override.
No issues with the overlay on proton ge
Maybe it matters that my game is installed to a secondary library, outside of my home directory? It's still on the same partition.
It doesn't. Mine was in a library on my second NVMe. But it does matter if it's formatted NTFS. It shouldn't be.
Since Proton Experimental (2025-05-23) it works again for me:
I guess that also fixed it for Fall Guys.
Before the workaround didn't work for me (adding those registry entries, they were already present). I also got these log messages:
LogEOSAuth(Warning): Unable to resolve Epic account id to product user id - No logged in user found
They also occur on Windows, so I guess it's "normal" and wasn't related to the overlay.
Fun enough, I still can't get the Epic overlay to work, only the Steam overlay. And now I get this randomly:
Maybe a fresh install helps now. As I had issues with my controller input on my ROG Ally with bazzite (it just randomly stopped working and were registered as keyboard input), I tried to downgrade to Proton stable (atm 9.0-4). This broke the overlay and at that point I wasn't aware of an issue with the overlay itself. Looks like the EOS Overlay wasn't updated before, but the downgrade triggered a re-install of the Epic Online Services with the latest version.
I did a fresh install of the game and started it with Proton 9.0-4 initially, here I realized the overlay still didn't work. If found this issue then, and updated back to Proton Experimental. First the overlay didn't work. Since the last Proton Experimental update it works again.
So maybe a fresh prefix helps, or starting the game first with Proton 9.0-4 and then upgrade to Proton Experimental might do the trick.
Can agree- I wasn't able to run the game in Proton 10-1 but in GE-Proton10-3 it ran perfectly fine
Well I can't stop the game in the steam client
I haven't tested Proton 10 yet with this one. I know at least third party Proton 10 builds make Oblivion Remastered run like crap on this machine compared to Proton Experimental.
I will report back if Proton 10 beta in its current state fixes the Epic overlay. Otherwise I can only invite Steam friends to games, and can only accept invites that come through Steam chat.
Edit: Nope, Proton 10.0-1 still doesn't fix the Epic overlay for me. Clicking the in-game overlay button, or pressing Shift-F3, does nothing.
I am having issues with EAC, launch error with unexpected error #1
A few things that may help:
windows SDL driver, so try SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland,windows %command%PROTON_USE_WOW64=0 %command%sysctl kernel.yama.ptrace_scope prints 1Ok I think it is the ptrace issue
You can change it temporarily, just to check if it's really the cause:
sudo sysctl -w kernel.yama.ptrace_scope=1
For a persistent change, see Sysctl Configuration.
Edit: I think most distros use ptrace_scope=1, so maybe you manually added ptrace_scope=2 somewhere. Using 2 is more secure, but I don't think 1 is insecure either. Just don't use 0. Check out the options in Yama.
My hardened linux set it to 2 lol
Oh, ok. Then your setup could have a few other incompatibilities with EAC. Client-side anti cheat has to be (at least a bit) invasive, so it can verify that you're not cheating. Security hardening usually blocks those kind of things.
Anyone having issues launching EAC when using hardened malloc in the system
