Symptoms

the game does not start. looking in the logs, wine fails to move to the working directory. removing the ™ symbol in the file name path causes the game to work in other versions of wine (system wine 6.6 and lutris wine 6.0). this issue is persistant through other versions of wine in steam as well and with the beta version of steam pressure vessel

Reproduction

add a ™ symbol to the path of any game and it will not start under wine. wine will fail to open the path.

Hello @T3cube, we've seen trouble with the ™ unicode in this game's path before at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-runtime/issues/349, however, that issue has been fixed and shipped. I don't think your issue is an exact match to the issue reported there, but it may be worthwhile to follow some of the troubleshooting steps there and gather a Steam Linux Runtime log with the instructions at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-runtime/blob/master/doc/reporting-steamlinuxruntime-bugs.md#essential-information so we can ponder that as well.

Also might be interesting to completely close Steam, start Steam from a terminal with PRESSURE_VESSEL_RELAUNCH_CONTAINER=0 steam, and test if that influences Proton in this case.

Thanks, that at least makes it clear that there is a different issue than https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-runtime/issues/349 to investigate. Pressure Vessel seems to be sanely handing the ™ through to Proton.

also, about the checking for updates portion of the report....being on arch linux you kinda cant be up-to-date for more than a few minutes.

after even more troubleshooting i discouvered my locale.conf was blanked (probably because i forgot to update it)
i added my LANG and added my lang to the KDE locale config and everspace now launches

Hi,

the game is mostly stable, but sometimes leaving a system with t
he supralight drive crashes the game.
Here the log from the point it crashes: steam-1128920.important.log

Specs:

  • 3700X
  • RX6700XT
  • 32GB RAM
  • Arch with Mesa driver 23.0.3
  • Game is started in DX12 mode

Edit: game was running with Proton 6, because I set that globally.
Changed to Proton 8, lets' see if this fixed the issue.
