Symptoms

Tabbing out of the game at any point breaks controller and keyboard input. Only mouse input seems to still be detected, with keyboard and controller input (Xbox 360 wired controller in my case) having no effect.

The game also does not have any sound with Proton 6.3-4, however this is already fixed in Proton Experimental.

Reproduction

  1. Launch game
  2. Wait a little, try controller/keyboard input inside the menu of the game
  3. Press Alt+Tab to tab out of the game
  4. Return to the game (Alt+Tab)
  5. Observe that controller/keyboard input is no longer detected by the game

If you happen to have a Windows installation, can you reproduce this issue in Windows on the same hardware? I'm asking because when I played Project CARS 2 on Windows I've had the same issue, and it carried over to Linux / Proton for me. So what I'm saying is it might be a game issue rather than Proton/Wine/Linux issue.

I just tried it on my Windows installation and I can not reproduce it there. The issue is only present on Proton it seems.

Alright, I suppose it was worth a try. For a bit more context, my issue with PC2 was on Windows 8.1.

Hello. We've just pushed an update to Proton Experimental which should fix the issue of losing input when Project Cars 3 loses focus.

Just updated Proton Experimental and can confirm that the issue is fixed. Input continues working even after changing out and into the game window.

Hello. We've just pushed an update to Proton Experimental which should fix the issue of losing input when Project Cars 3 loses focus.

This issue affects to another games that have the same engine (madness) like Automobilista 2 and Project Cars 2.

In both games, using Proton Experimental, and a Logitech G29 with new-lg4ff, after doing Alt-Tab, the game reacts to the wheel, but it looses a lot of effects, and seems there are not FFB (if you move the wheel quckly you feel the counter-steer)
