I tried running the demo to Tormented Souls using Proton but just get a weird coloured screen when trying to start a game. I was unable to get the PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to produce a log file but I used "&> log.txt" and got a crude log file:

log.txt

Here is a screenshot of the coloured screen:

Tormented Souls Demo Bug

I'm guessing some video codec issue but i'm unsure. I noticed in that log file that it mentioned Fsync was running but adding the command "PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%" didn't solve the issue. I also tried using Proton Experimental instead of 6.3-7 but the issue remained.

I have checked whether there are updates for my system available and I am up to date

System Information:

Distro: Manjaro

GPU: RX 580 8GB

Driver/LLVM version: Mesa 21.2.3/12.0.1

Kernel version: 5.14.10-1-MANJARO

In the full game this screen isn't there. With Proton 7.0 there is a place where desktop crashes (GPU driver reports soft lockup) but it works fine with Proton 8.0
I am guessing the demo would work with newer Proton too? (retest)

in the full game with kernel 6.12.4 and Mesa 24.3.0 there is in some spots a freeze and game continues after.
In the kernel log there is a line:

amdgpu: ring gfx timeout, but soft recovered

So that is potentially something that is in the kernel side and seems to be recent (there was kernel fix that fixed another game crashing). There was also GPU firmware update recently.
