Symptoms

The game launches and is able to get to the menu, but crashes when loading into a level, or midway through the beginning of a level.

Videos appear to not be working and sleuthing in the game files shows they are MP4 files.

The video issue is most likely due to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1464

Wow. It almost still looks good

The game seems to play well when using an unofficial version of Proton (with media foundation patches, e.g. Proton GE), so I suspect the hang that happens when you start the first level is down to video playback issues.

With Proton Experimental the game doesn't crash and continues to play audio.. other levels seem to load correctly too.

When attempting to play the game it starts up in another language (ProtonDB suggests it is Chinese), the intro credits don't play (they show the test-card type background from initial report). and after pressing Enter on the main menu it hangs on a white screen. The Steam client itself also hangs, meaning I have to kill the game from KSysGuard. This happens with Proton 6.3-8 and Proton Experimental, and unofficial builds of Proton as well. It occurs with the DX11 and DX12 builds of the game.

Can confirm that the game is no longer playable with recent versions, tried with Proton 6.3-8 and Experimental (and also Proton-GE)

Game gets to the title screen, and when hitting enter it hangs on a white screen. With older Proton version 5.13-6 the game is playable, but is missing the videos.

Unfortunately, even with Proton-GE, above is still accurate.

At least with GE, videos seem to play fine; Experimental still shows canned video bars in place of the actual content.

Can confirm that the white screen hang is still present on my AMD setup. I have tried Proton, Proton-GE, a few Protontricks tweaks and have not been able to fix the regression.

Noticeably the game has also switched to another language (Chinese I believe) for the loading screens.

I am also experiencing the white screen hang with Proton 6.3-8, Proton Experimental and Proton-7.0rc3-GE-1, and the language being set to Chinese on startup.
