Payday 2 also gets stuck in a tiny screen sometimes when alt tabbing out and in.
Can confirm I have the same issue, game works fine on 7.06 but anything higher (aka experimental or GE) will fail to launch.
Issue happens both with and without SuperBLT installed.
Attached below is logs from using Proton GE or Proton Experimental, along with the Payday 2 crash report (found in Appdata/Local/PAYDAY 2/crash.txt)
crash.txt is the same on both GE and Experimental
Same issue here on proton ge 7-51

The game does in fact run on 7.06 for me too actually.
From my experience compatibility ends on GE 7-50 and 7.06. Anything newer doesn't spawn the game window.
Proton 8.0-1 and GE 8-1 are working again.
Tried with Proton 8-GE 8, 7, and Experimental, they all hang on the initial loading screen immediately after launch.
Was also unable to get my Nvidia card working at all, it wouldn't even generate a Proton log if I had DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME='NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080' in my param.
I'm experiencing a regression.
The keyboard works but not correctly. It sometimes misses keystrokes or misses that a key has been let go.
Start game
Get ingame into a level, or alt tab and type anywhere
Observe keys not working as they should
Hello @nevanlowe, there's a couple years of changes between Proton 9.0 and Proton Experimental. Can you check how the game behaves with Proton 10 and/or 11 to reduce the time frame?
Oh my bad, turns out it just sorts by number and not date. 10 and 11 sit all the way at the bottom.
Anyways, the behavior first appears in 10.0-4. Also I just tried playing a few more games, specifically Rimworld, Deep Rock Galactic, and Zombie Army Trilogy. They all exhibit the same behavior where the keyboard works fine on 9.0-4 but not on the more recent releases. So I guess this isn't a Payday 2 specific regression but something with my hardware or software works with the old versions but not the new ones.
Update: I checked dmesg and while a game is running it resets my keyboard about every 1.2 seconds

The following udev rule seems to make the issue go away and allow me to use newer proton versions.
