Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Envelope
  • Steam AppID of the game: 2717480

System Information

  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE
  • Video driver version: Mesa 24.2.0-devel
  • Kernel version: 6.9.8-200.fc40.x86_64
  • Link to full system information report: system_info.txt
  • Proton version: experimental-bleeding-edge-9.0

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

Game is unplayable/does not load in properly when starting new game with default Proton. With experimental-bleeding-edge-9.0 game loads in without issues and is fully playable, but the issue is that Text To Speech (TTS) feature is not working.

Note! This issue can not be replicated with the demo of the game. The demo works on default Proton, but it lacks the TTS feature and looks and is functionally somewhat different.

Reproduction

  • Launch the game, notice how in the options menu TTS > customize it says "Voice Error"

  • When you start a new game there is immediately some dialogue, note the speaker icon in the dialogue box. When pressing it, it should toggle between TTS and you should be hearing the machine speech

Proton Log:
steam-2717480.experimental-bleeding-edge-9.0.log

In the logs I see "\system32\Speech\Common\sapi.dll" so I guess the game is using Microsofts Speech API.

Re-Test

The "Text to Speech feature" is working now on Proton Experimental on the condition that you installed the "Proton Voice Files", and there are a couple of quirks.

Symptoms

After installing "Proton Voice Files", and forcing Proton Experimental:

  1. Launch Game
  2. In the main menu go to Settings > Enable TTS >> Customize > Toggle "Enable Dialogue" ON and OFF

Start the game and observe that the tech to speech is now working

Quirks

The "Text to Speech" in the options menu still shows "error" for voice. And you have to enable/disable the "enable dialogue" option everytime you launch the game, it is otherwise disabled by default during gameplay.
