Symptoms

The game suddenly crashes at start ( It open the first screen when I see the title and the same image as on the steam game, then goes full screen white for a second, then closes and back to steam.

A little more info:

  • The game run smoothly when I installed it, however, I couldn't play it with a PS5 controller (which is reported as not fully supported, so fair game here). I put it 20 hours into it with keyboard and mouse and everything run fine.
  • Then I got my hands into an Xbox controlled and is where the trouble started:
    • I plugged the controller into the usb, and tried to run the game, and it crashed as explained above
    • I unplugged the controller, and the game crashed again,.
    • Both with the controller on and off I tried with the different proton versions mentioned above (restarting the computer betweens tried with and without controller, just to be sure)
    • Checked on steam support forums for the game, here, on reddit and whenever google has brought me.
    • Tried to uninstall the game and reinstall it again, to no avail.
    • Although I didn't modify any of the game files, I also check the integrity of the files using Steam.
    • Also tried to uninstall proton versions (thinking that maybe the xbox controller messed up and got an error for both hotfix and experimental failing due to Missing shared content
  • Also, none of the other games using proton works now

Reproduction

I assume the minimal path should be:

  • Try to launch the game from a clean install while a xbox controller is setup on the usb port, but not sure

Hello @ManuelAlvarezC, we're using one issue report per unofficially supported game title, so I've gone ahead and transferred this issue report to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/5613#issuecomment-2577864360.
