Symptoms

When trying to run the game with Proton 9, the game freezes after the splash screen and quickly fills up my 32GB of memory and eventually hangs my system unless killed. Unless logging is enabled, in which case it just freezes but doesn't noticably increase ram usage. This means the proton 9 log above is created without the increased memory usage.

Using Proton 8, the game runs fine. However steam leaderboards and my cloud save (from running the game on windows) are not available. Game logs show this:

Init SteamClient
Something went wrong with Steam, continuing in non-steam mode
SteamApi_Init failed with FailedGeneric - error: No SteamClient021

Reproduction

For Proton 9.0-4(and experimental):

  • Launch game
  • Observe game hanging after Splash screen

For Proton 8.0-5

  • Launch Game
  • Go to options and enable "skip tutorial"
  • Go back to the tv/"new game" option and observe the "no steam leaderboards" text.

Since the Proton updates yesterday everything now works as expected (including leaderboards and cloud save) on Proton Hotfix and Experimental. Don't know if It's something you did to target this specifically, but thanks for looking into this regardless.
