steam-3513350.log

Current state

As of Proton 10.0 (-2 beta at time of update) through Steam, on supported devices or systems (Deck, SteamOS installs), Wuthering Waves looks to be playable.

Known issues

Browser glitches

The in-game browser component (used for feedback, in-game announcements, and pull tracking, amongst other things) has major transparency and operation issues.

The developer has recognized this explicitly through in-game messaging. Yes, there is a catch-22 in that being made aware of this information would require the browser component to be functional, but that's besides the point.

## Symptoms

### Important Notice
Assuming the same anti-cheat is kept, this game _**will not work**_ on SteamOS/Steam Deck unless Kuro Games is making an exception for **Steam Deck**.

### Now for the bug report
**That being said**, if Kuro does indeed carve out an exception for Steam Deck, the game _**as-is, right now**_, will not work on launch with Proton 9.x due to an `mfplat` failure.

#### Important Update
Proton 10.0-1 Beta appears to bring in code that fixes the issue, though the initial game experience shows a test video sequence instead of in-game assets, potentially for a few restarts. In-game assets do start playing at some point, leaving me puzzled as to what's missing earlier on.

## Reproduction

* Through means beyond the scope of this discussion, run latest Wuthering Waves under Proton Experimental
  * Enable PROTON_LOG for good measure
* Get to Rinascita (might take a while)
* `wine: Call from 00006FFFFFC1CF97 to unimplemented function mfplat.dll.MFGetConfigurationDWORD, aborting`
  * It is likely that methods beyond this single one need to be implemented.

## Known workaround

At the cost of a proper game experience, forcing `mfplat` to `d` force-disables mfplat but breaks in-game video media playback.

``sh
export WINEDLLOVERRIDES="mfplat=d"
``
It also breaks in-game experience in that there are game-relevant videos that do not get played, potentially robbing the player of context-relevant content.

## Additional notes
It may be that Wine 10 introduces better `mfplat` support and that the next generation of Proton brings in the needful. Running the game under `wine-staging` 10.x shows proper video media asset playback in-game.
Ccybik 2025-04-28 github

As expected, the anti-cheat is hostile and allowlists Decks at random.

Wwantija 2025-04-29 github

From what I have read on Steam Forums, this game whitelists LCD Deck, but not OLED. Also does not seem to work on non-Steam deck hardware like desktops.

Ccybik 2025-04-29 github

Rewinding back time a bit, and assuming knowledge of the dark arts, using GE 9-7 results in in-game movie asset playback executing fine, meaning the gstreamer stuff is impacting this game's movie playback code in some way.

Ccybik 2025-04-29 github

I'll be damned, media is starting to work with Proton 10.

Not playing, but showing the test media instead of in-game assets.

edit: maybe it's placebo, maybe it's transcoded assets being downloaded over time. whatever it is, switching from DXVK (dx11) to VKD3D got media playback to work after 3 game restarts.

This has the potential of robbing players from high emotion moments if the media files aren't seeded properly, but I may be wrong in my understanding of Proton's media playback.

Ccybik 2025-08-06 github

Provisional update: with Proton 10.0 directly from VALVe, on supported targets (Deck, SteamOS devices), it seems that Wuthering Waves just plays now. Great progress.

BBenDover360 2025-10-21 github

In the version 2.7 I can't enable FSR 3 on RX 9060 XT.
Inside the folder "Wuthering Waves" /Client/Saved/Logs/Client.log it says that "Failed to Initialize AGS".

That shouldn't be a problem if the game had the dll file in the library inside the folder of the game.

There's a possibility that the game is calling the library from AMD/Windows library and there's nothing about it in Proton.

There's a request about merging AGS files here (https://github.com/ValveSoftware/wine/pull/195) and it will be possible to get fixed if the developer does not fix it themselves!

Eeverything411 2025-11-16 github

amd_ags_x64.all is available here download it and place to Wuthering Waves Game/Client/Binaries/Win64/ folder. the Failed to Initialize AGS error is gone and fsr3 is just ok

Turns out it's not that simple. It seems WuWa doesn't actually try to load the amd_ags_x64.dll. The game exe was probably built static linked with amd_ags_x64.lib, so there's no external DLL to replace.

I'm sorry if this bug report is not helpful - I've probably made this comment longer than needed and made some silly mistake, and I have no idea if this issue is caused by Proton, DXVK, or something else. I just am not sure how to isolate the issue but have done my best to narrow the issue. I apologize if this issue is vague or I am just doing something very wrong, but I've done my best to provide details on the entire issue.

I have currently reproduced this issue on Proton-Experimental, although I originally had this issue with GE-Proton. Launching the game from Steam itself leads to the virtual desktop window briefly appearing and disappearing and then the game's soundtrack playing in the background after a bit, but the game window never shows up. Here's the journalctl output from when I try to launch the game in Steam; I have no idea why the game only fails to start when it's launched via Steam:

I have a dedicated Intel Arc B580 GPU and a Ryzen 5 7500F CPU. I'm using Arch Linux with Wayland and using Lutris to play Wuthering Waves, which I downloaded from Steam. I'm using a kernel I compiled myself from the Linux 6.18 branch; I made almost no changes to the kernel configuration besides enabling the option to tune the kernel for my local CPU, disabling NVIDIA and AMD graphics drivers, and disabling kernel module compression to work around an unrelated issue I was having with VirtualBox drivers failing to decompress.

I experienced a lot of strange functional glitches when I first played the game, such as the game failing to capture the mouse cursor unless I alt+tabbed out, and so I have a fairly long configuration for the game now, with this command prefix (I use Wayland for my system but set x11 for this game to fix an issue with not being able to copy from my password manager to the game):

SteamOS=1 STEAMDECK=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 WINE_GSTREAMER=1 GDK_BACKEND=x11 VK_DRIVER_FILES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/intel_icd.x86_64.json

And a dxgi.dll override with the value n,b. I tried removing the override and changing various other settings, as well as restarting my computer and updating everything in the package manager, but had no success.

However, the graphics issues I'm having now were not happening earlier. After installing the game's newest update (released earlier today), I am experiencing a lot of strange graphical issues. Any 3D models in the game besides characters, weapons, and 3D UI elements will have constant flickering brightness whenever they have a source of illumination on them. This doesn't affect characters, cutscenes, UI, etc. Here is a screen recording showing this (the graphics are not actually this fuzzy/low-resolution, I just lowered my screen recorder quality a lot to make sure the file wouldn't become too big):

https://github.com/colleirose/colleirose/blob/main/2025-11-20_22-08-45.mp4

This issue goes away if I switch to OpenGL, but I cannot do so in Proton-Experimental. With GE-Proton I would use winetricks to switch to OpenGL, but that appears to not be possible here:

Nov 22 16:39:17 pc lutris[176145]: 2025-11-22 16:39:17,853: Runtime disabled by system configuration
Nov 22 16:39:17 pc lutris[176145]: 2025-11-22 16:39:17,854: winetricks: Valve official Proton builds do not support winetricks.

I have been unable to get Proton-Experimental to use OpenGL correctly because I'm not sure what command line parameters to set. The only results I could get are for Vulkan, where it still doesn't work and has the same problem.

Logs for the different programs (I have no idea why Proton-Experimental doesn't produce nearly as much log information as GE-Proton10-25):

Furthermore, OpenGL in general creates massive and constant lag spikes whenever I move around in-game or interact with the environment at all unless I significantly lower my graphics settings. I had issues with Vulkan since I got this computer (corrupted and frozen graphics, extreme lag, etc., none of which I could find any related journalctl or dmesg entries regarding), and I believe I had made some changes to make some applications default to using OpenGL, but this game in particular never had any issues with Vulkan.

I also reported this on the dxvk issue tracker and to do so I had to use their apitrace program to find logs regarding the cause of the issue. When I first downloaded the apitrace files and put it in the game directory, the issue no longer occurred, but manually downloading and compiling dxvk and putting it in the game folder does not fix the issue. I am not able to find the log file in /home/user/.wine/drive_c/users/user/Desktop/, which is where my prefix folder is:

Image Image

Documents copied from building dxvk myself:

Image

Documents copied from copying apitrace:

Image

The executable is indeed 64-bit:

Image

After the second attempt with apitrace, still nothing was copied, but this time the issue did reoccur, the same as what was shown in the original screen recording, and once again nothing was copied to the desktop folder:

Image

I have no idea why the issue went away at first. Before using the dxvk build I compiled myself, I had set some DLL overrides in winecfg for various DirectX files to n,b but removing those overrides did not change anything; removing just some led to the issue being the same as before, removing all of them led to the game being very laggy and colors being entirely wrong:

Image Image
Ccolleirose 2025-11-23 github

I spent a while trying to find a reliable way to recreate the error and to get better logs. At some point the issue kept re-occuring and switching to OpenGL didn't fix it anymore, but I've been able to make the issue consistently stop when using these options and the Proton-Experimental runner:

SteamOS=1 STEAMDECK=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 WINE_GSTREAMER=1 GDK_BACKEND=x11 VK_DRIVER_FILES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/intel_icd.x86_64.json %command% -dx11

However, Proton-Experimental still fails to play cutscenes at all (I just get that screen with the blue and red bars and some TV static effect on the bottom right, although the cutscene subtitles still appear), both with and without the WINE_GSTREAMER option, but cutscenes work fine with GE-Proton10-25.

I still don't know what causes the errors or have much more information but I will try to get some more information once I have the time.

I was also only able to solve the issues mentioned in my earlier comment when using DX11. I'm unsure what configurations support DX12 for this game on Linux.

Some information for everyone:

There's one kind person who is fixing vkd3d-proton each time a new Wuthering Waves version releases: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/issues/5342#issuecomment-3868671611

If you are experiencing this issue, just wait for an update.

Wuthering Waves (3513350)

Issue transferred from https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/9497.
@LimticRage posted on 2026-02-14T15:01:45:

Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Wuthering Waves
  • Steam AppID of the game: 3513350

System Information

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

When using liquidctl (liquid cooler driver) the game ignores mouse inputs on the UI elements, here is the bug report in which the driver dev came to the conclusion it's an external problem.

Here is a reddit thread where I (OP) found out about the problem and another person having it

It seems that the game engine "thinks" my kraken water cooler is a controller ignoring mouse input

Reproduction

  1. Install liquidctl.
  2. reboot system.
  3. start game and using mouse and keyboard input scheme try to interact with UI elements inside the menu (Main menu or in game manu).
  4. Uninstalling liquidctl makes the game work correctly.

Hello @LimticRage, https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/9468 seems related to what you're seeing.

Confirm to be working, thank you very much, and again sorry for the post.

SteamOS=1 STEAMDECK=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 WINE_GSTREAMER=1 GDK_BACKEND=x11 VK_DRIVER_FILES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/intel_icd.x86_64.json %command% -dx11

The console logs have:

(wine:53367): GStreamer-WARNING **: 15:27:49.566: Failed to load plugin '/home/jessidhia/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton - Experimental/files/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gstreamer-1.0/libgstlibav.so': libavfilter.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

On a normal terminal, ldd on the libgstlibav.so can find all libraries just fine:

        linux-vdso.so.1 (0x00007f60391a0000)
        libavfilter.so.7 => /usr/lib/libavfilter.so.7 (0x00007f6038c00000)
        libavformat.so.58 => /usr/lib/libavformat.so.58 (0x00007f6038800000)
        libavcodec.so.58 => /usr/lib/libavcodec.so.58 (0x00007f6037200000)
(...)

They're definitely present in /usr/lib, but for some reason they can't be found when Proton tries to load GStreamer. I'll note that they're not present in /usr/lib32 and so ldd on the i386 version won't load them, but this game uses a 64bit binary so 32bit multilib things should not be a concern.

GPU memory allocation failures + UI freezes in Wuthering Waves (Proton + NVIDIA)

Issue transferred from https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/9818.
@Mvkweb posted on 2026-05-26T07:54:25:

Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Wuthering Waves
  • Steam AppID of the game: 3513350

System Information

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

Repeated NVIDIA NVKMS memory allocation errors during gameplay under Proton:

  • [nvidia-drm] Failed to allocate NVKMS video memory for GEM object
  • [nvidia-drm] Failed to allocate NVKMS memory for GEM object

When this happens:

  • Regular playing, nothing in the background just the game and steam.
  • UI applications may freeze or hang temporarily
  • Happens especially when switching focus or using GPU-accelerated applications (Discord stream/video, Ghostty fullscreen)
  • More frequent during Wuthering Waves + other GPU-heavy workloads
  • No full system crash, but temporary system unresponsiveness

Reproduction

  1. Launch Steam with Proton (CachyOS SLR or Proton Experimental)
  2. Start Wuthering Waves
  3. Play until GPU load increases
  4. While game is running:
    • Open GPU-accelerated application (e.g. Discord stream or terminal with GPU rendering)
    • OR toggle fullscreen mode between applications
  5. Observe UI freeze / temporary hang
  6. Check kernel logs for NVKMS memory allocation errors

Notes

  • Issue reproduced on both Proton-CachyOS-SLR and Proton Experimental
  • No consistent XID crash observed
  • System recovers without reboot or hard reset
  • Shutdown works normally after issue
  • Possibly related to VRAM pressure or NVIDIA DRM memory allocation under Proton

Hi! Does this issue occur with any other game or specifically Wuthering Waves?
I couldnt find any proton related issues in the log you attached.
The minimum requirements on the game are pretty high so this could just be a hardware limitation, specifically the vram.

Minimum:
    Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    OS: Windows10 64-bit
    Processor: Intel Core i5 (9th Gen) / Ryzen 2700
    Memory: 16 GB RAM
    Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060/AMD Radeon RX 570/Intel ARC A380
    DirectX: Version 12
    Network: Broadband Internet connection
    Storage: 150 GB available space
    Sound Card: Windows Compatible Audio Device
    Additional Notes: HDD Supported, SSD Recommended.

I have not tested other games with proton, but i am playing games more demanding than wuthering waves that don't require proton and this does not happen at all.

I know this isn't so much relevant, but wuthering waves didn't have such issues on Windows, the game runs well even on medium settings, but even going all the way down doesn't seem to fix it i dont think its a hardware issue. Id say the cpu is my limiting point but 4 gb for this game should be enough even on medium, if not atleast on the lowest settings so idk.

Could also just be from nvidia and how it interacts with proton? Because other demanding games don't give such issues. seems to be just wuthering waves proton.

i dont see how this is a duplicate? My error seems different than this one, it has nothing to do with what i have stated. I don't think this is a duplicated issue and shouldnt be merged into this.

@Mvkweb it's not about duplicated issues. VALVe are keeping to one ticket per Game, not issue; you are free to document issues you discovered in the game's existing ticket (this one).

Update: Caught the exact kernel crash logs

Just a quick update. I managed to pull the kernel logs from exactly when the system hangs, and it looks like it's a severe Virtual Address Space/VRAM fragmentation issue taking down the NVIDIA driver and Wayland together.

I'm on a 4GB GTX 1650, and once Wuthering Waves fills up some VRAM ( even 2.5/4, so not even near full ), the NVIDIA driver starts throwing NVRM assertion failures, which instantly kills kwin_wayland.

Here is the exact chain of events from my journalctl right as the crash happens:

# 1. GPU runs out of space for display objects
mai 27 09:22:55 Mvk kernel: [drm:nv_drm_gem_alloc_nvkms_memory_ioctl [nvidia_drm]] *ERROR* [nvidia-drm] [GPU ID 0x00000100] Failed to allocate NVKMS memory for GEM object

# 2. Wayland compositor gets starved and drops context
mai 27 09:22:55 Mvk kwin_wayland[1057]: QRhiGles2: Failed to make context current. Expect bad things to happen.
mai 27 09:22:55 Mvk kwin_wayland[1057]: Failed to create RHI (backend 2)

# 3. NVIDIA driver hits severe VA space fragmentation and assertion fails
mai 27 09:23:12 Mvk kernel: NVRM: intermapRegisterDmaMapping: Failed to insert new mapping node for range 0xDFB7320000-0xDFB732FFFF!
mai 27 09:23:12 Mvk kernel: NVRM: GPU0 nvAssertFailedNoLog: Assertion failed: NV_OK == status @ gpu_vaspace.c:4631
mai 27 09:23:36 Mvk kernel: NVRM: nvCheckFailedNoLog: Check failed: NV_OK == status @ virt_mem_allocator_gm107.c:2552
mai 27 09:23:36 Mvk kernel: NVRM: nvCheckOkFailedNoLog: Check failed: Invalid argument to call [NV_ERR_INVALID_ARGUMENT] (0x0000001F) returned from _gvaspaceMappingInsert(pGVAS, pGpu, pVASBlock, vaLo, vaHi, flags) @ gpu_vaspace.c:2026

It seems like DXVK/Proton is mapping memory in a way that severely fragments the VA space on the GM107 architecture until the proprietary driver deadlocks, freezing the whole PC. Let me know if you need any extra logs to help track this down.

Rrivenirvana 2026-06-27 github

Anyone experiencing subsequent cutscenes being skipped for cutscenes that are meant to play consecutively? It's a bit hard to grab a recording since quests are non-replayable. A bit of audio for the next cutscene plays and the screen is black but then just skips it entirely.

Something that might be related and is more easily observable/reproducible, is that the screens in Ragunna don't loop the video they're playing and just stops at the last frame.

This is observable regardless of the shader pre-caching setting, the proton version (tried GE, experimental, and cachy).
Nvidia open drivers, Arch Wayland, no launch args.

Symptoms

The game does not boot up. After clicking on "Start game", it crashes.

Reproduction

  1. Try to start the game in Gaming or Desktop mode.
Ccybik 2026-07-04 github

Right now, the SteamOS=1 and SteamDeck=1 options seem to impact the game experience negatively, AND do not actually impact the anti-cheat initialization phase anymore. What's more, enabling SteamOS mode seems to impact the media playback, while not using the SteamOS mode uses the normal media mode instead - which, paradoxically, fixes media playback.
