steam-750130_proton10.0-3_gamescope_hdr.log

In summary, it seams that while trying to use HDR, PS5 controller doesn't work.

I tested with some configurations (wayland+hdr, gamescope with and without options), none is working with HDR + PS5 controller. Some tests seam to point an issue between gamescope and the PS5 controller for this game (controller also not working with gamescope enable without option).

I also tested on a Steam Deck Oled with original SteamOS running in Game Mode. Proton 10.0-3 is the recommended version on Steam Deck, so I tried with it and with GE-Proton10-26. All works "out of box".

Below some tests I made on my PC, wired connected controller (same results with bluetooth).

Proton Exp, no gamescope

SteamDeck=0 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 %command%

  • controller OK with Steam Input, NOK without Steam Input
  • HDR NOK

Proton Exp, gamescope, no Steam Input

gamescope --hdr-enabled -- %command%

  • controller NOK
  • HDR OK

Proton 10.0-3, no gamescope

SteamDeck=0 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 %command%

  • controller OK with Steam Input, NOK without Steam Input
  • HDR NOK

Proton 10.0-3, gamescope, no Steam Input

gamescope --hdr-enabled -- %command%

  • controller NOK
  • HDR OK

GE-Proton10-28, no gamescope

SteamDeck=0 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 %command%

  • controller NOK with and without Steam Input
  • HDR OK

GE-Proton10-28, gamescope, no Steam Input

gamescope --hdr-enabled -- %command%

  • controller NOK
  • HDR OK

Reproduction

Use Bazzite in Desktop Mode with KDE on a PC, try some options to activate PS5 controller and HDR in the same time, with wayland+hdr options and gamescope on/off.

Hello @Vorrhilion, it might be interesting to see if adapting the workaround at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/gamescope/issues/697#issuecomment-2564875728 works for you. PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND and PROTON_ENABLE_HDR isn't part of any mainline Proton build and isn't supportable.

Hello @kisak-valve,

I tried with LD_PRELOAD= gamescope -- env LD_PRELOAD="$LD_PRELOAD" %command%, controller works fine with Steam Input.

Then I tried with LD_PRELOAD= gamescope -W 3840 -H 2160 --fullscreen --hdr-enabled -- env LD_PRELOAD="$LD_PRELOAD" %command%, HDR and controller (with Steam Input) work fine with these options.

Tested with GE-Proton10-28, Proton Experimental, wired controller, bluetooth controller.

Thanks a lot for your help.

I consider my issue as resolved, but as I am not sure if you want more informations or if I can close the topic as I want, please let me know if I have to made some action before closing.

Thanks for the advice @aydjay . I submited my report. I don't know why it doesn't appear on the game page, but I suppose it's because of some sort of verification process. Hope this will be helpfull :)
