I'm guessing you did not read/understand the problem. Or do not care that this makes Steam client not really usable when minimized. Will you reopen this bug or should I file another one?

I have read your report, and the one I’ve linked in full. You should read the bug linked (and further linked bugs) to understand the reason ‐ Valve have said this is out of their control.

You mean fixing bugs for other then ubuntu distro is outside the scope for Valve? Or are you saying that Steam client can only work on under Unity/Gnome?

Please state it clearly so people wont be filing bugs. Or don't call this "Beta".

Valve uses system libraries for the system tray integration, appindicator specifically. Steam can and does run on other distros and desktop environments but there are some behavioural issues that other non-valve developers are looking at fixing ‐ this is why its a closed bug, because valve have said its not a steam bug.

I’m a community member tasked with reducing their workload for finding and fixing issues, I do not wish to appear heavy-handed but thats the way it can come across.

Steam left beta last week, are you on the most recent client? It should say Built Feb 15 2013 in the about box, and the latest up-to-date steam package from your distros maintainer should be 1.0.0.28

This is latest version (Built: Feb 15 2013, at 12:24:26).
I do not believe this is system library issues since it appears the menu is only slow when main Steam window has library page up. Or when main Steam window is closed.

It really surprises me that most bugs with not-reproducible or "not Ubuntu like" behaviors are being closed with resolution "won't fix" or "not Steam bug", especially for the released product.

After the latest update the menu is extremely responsive and quick.

However, once I open my friends list or a chat window it slows down again.
