Hi,

This morning Steam client proposed to update game content to a new format. Ok with this, but the client was totally stuck because on the progress popup that won't dismiss. Moreover, I can't even get the client to iconify so I coumd try to start another game. The client keeps grabbing focus, it is responsive to UI request but popup get on top and I get the "notification bell sound".

I can't even start othe games from start menu I get the "Game is missing" error.

Correction. Game is missing error is a separate issue. I could start other game and update was suspended, back to normal situation. Transitional inconsistency client state I assume.

So ignoring the game error, and the bell issue ( #846 ? ), this is a problem with the conversion modal dialog unable to be dismissed ? Could you provide a screenshot, or system information, or any terminal output from steam.
Was steam busy converting 12GB of files, did you check iotop or top to see if steam was processing?

Not the same issue as described in #846, just the popup that didn't want to dismiss and prevented any other actions within the client.
I did start another game directly from shortcut icons and it apparently made the update dl suspend and the popup disappeared. Client, w/o being restarted, went back to normal behaviour. I just had to resume update dl for TF2 (which isn't finished yet so it wasn't a conversion problem, state I expect to take a while a few CPU cycles, so to speak).
Consider this a really minor problem, I can't even reproduce it.

Closing because this scenario should not exist in the wild anymore.
