FTL: Faster Than Light fails to download

After installing "FTL: Faster Than Light" no download starts. When attempting to start the game, Steam gives the following error message:

"Failed to start game (missing executable)"

The message links to a non-existant helpdesk page.

Basically, this game is not actually supported, even though it appears in the Steam Library.

FTL developers have added Linux support on Steam for Linux if you participate in their beta - the password is "betapatch".

I quote marcusmoller. There is a beta version for Linux in Steam. Some people can download and play FTL, some other can't. Maybe is a 64bit version issue,

Once you’ve opted into the beta branch with the password, it will download the same FTL as you can get from their website, which includes both x86 & x86_64 bins.

FYI: FTL was just added to the official supported game list. Please delete local content and download again.
