Black rectangle instead of a login window

I hadn't run Steam in a few weeks. Now I ran it, it updated and all I got was this black rectangle in the middle of the screen instead of the login window. I tried reinstalling steam, deleting /.steam, uninstalling steam and replacing it with steam-native-runtime and... nothing changed, it keeps showing the black rectangle and that's it.

These are all the logs steam created when starting, hopefully there's something to help you fix the problem.

Edit: if I run steam through terminal, it displays fine and I can login. But if I run it through the .desktop file steam creates on its own, the above rectangle happens.

I suspect that your system has multiple GPUs and this is a side effect from the PrefersNonDefaultGPU=true setting in the desktop shortcut.

Done, I put the system information in the first post.
My system has only one video card - 1660 Ti, it never had 2. The motherboard itself (AsRock B85M Pro4) DOESN'T have an integrated video card, so no - no multiple GPUs.

Since everything I tried in the last 9 hours didn't work, I decided to fiddle with the .desktop file and see whether and when steam will run normally. I commented these two lines with a "#" in front of them:

PrefersNonDefaultGPU=true
X-KDE-RunOnDiscreteGpu=true

and suddenly steam ran just fine. Which IMO means that for some reason steam doesn't recognize my video card as a discrete. As I said above, the motherboard doesn't have integrated GPU, so it must be a bug with steam.

Thanks, the Intel i7-4770 does have an Ivybridge generation integrated GPU.

My understanding is that the Intel video driver isn't able to render to X running on the NVIDIA proprietary driver, and we've seen this before at #8179. Closing in favor of the older issue report.
