Screen native resolution is 1280x800. I am using a cr48 (prototype chromebook given to members who signed up for the chromebook beta program thing) running ubuntu 12.10. Not sure what graphics chip, intel something.

Game appears to be trying to use mode 1024x768. If I get in-game using windowed mode and try to switch to that mode fullscreen, the game closes.

Workaround: Add -windowed to game launch options.

Yeah, or edit configuration file and add the option there too.

Addendum: If I try my screen native resolution (1280x800) fullscreen, that also fails the same way.

Also I just got a HL update and the problem still persists.

If you need more info just let me know what commands I need to run to dump the relevant data.

Derp, forgot to mention the game closes on launch without the -windowed switch, if it tries to start up in fullscreen. After it outputs the title of this bug to the console, it then prints something about needing to immediately exit due to the error (and then does so).

This is a duplicate of https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/838 . How do we mark this in github?
