Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): December 19
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Fedora 37
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: Yes
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Now that the audio bug https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/6749 is solved (yay) a new bug has surfaced, where after a little while the frame timing just drops like a rock. I can reproduce this every single time. Audio stays perfectly fine, but the frame timing just drops hard and stays right down being completely unplayable.

Tested from Fedora to Steam Deck.

If I close the game and instantly re-stream, it works fine again for a bit and then the frame timing will again just drop like a rock. Every single time.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Try remote play for a while from a Linux host to Steam Deck

Could it have something to do with this? https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/1/3727323721762580360/

Currently experiencing very erratic behavior of the streaming functionality on both beta and preview versions of the Steam client for SteamOS (Steam Deck). Reverting to the current stable makes it work as expected.

This is on Stable and that issue sounds very different.

I am also experiencing the same issues as @LiamDawe. I initially thought it was me due to how the game loaded while my PC was locked, but multiple attempts exhibited the same behaviors Liam described.

Same exact issue. Can you please look into this valve?

from some research it looks like it might be an issue with hardware decoding in the deck
