Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Steam beta changes how settings page is displayed making it impossible to access to most settings

Trying to access settings via Steam UI showing it is not even rendered in the dropdown
cannot enter settings

Accessing settings via menu bar is actually fine
settings

Settings themselves are rendered in the beta very poorly, this IS the entirety of the settings menu, it is not minimised at all
entirety-of-settings

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Try to open settings

Questions/Background

Contacted steam support with a number of problems with the new ui on linux, support recommended I try the beta eventually. When I signed up for the beta UI, it got worse making it impossible for me to access settings again.

  • How can I downgrade to previous ui release as it actually was usable.

This is the odd fix I was able to muster:

trigger an install of a game in your library or go to the downloads page and click the gear in the top right.

for whatever reason, the settings window that appears here is somewhat more navigable despite looking the same.

Go to the interface menu and toggle the "scale text and icons to match monitor settings" option

A window with oversized text stating "restart required" that you cannot interact with will appear. Whatever. Close it and close Steam, and reopen it.

After that, the scaling was... normal? I don't know what normal even looks like anymore but this is where I'm at now:

and yeah my settings window looked like the same "minimalist" window you had before lol:

Oh nice one! That worked for me too! I can actually now get to settings in a completely awful way.

Also if you use big picture mode, found that to work getting to normal sized settings. Negative is that big picture mode is awful in itself.
