Hello @Munoida, in general, no OpenGL application should be capable of taking down the user session and this reads like a video driver issue.

For reference, please copy your system information from Steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.

Highly unlikely this is video driver issue as my video is mesa git Navi10--not NVIDIA. This bug started happening on my system too within the last few days and we all know what happened then.

Happens to me aswell.

Arch Linux, Ryzen 5 5600X and RTX 3060 with official drivers. When exiting steam, there's a totally random chance to have the OS session also closed. I'm running KDE Plasma here, i guess it could be relevant if the new UI makes some mistake treating the session like a SteamOS one.

Note that the SSD info is wrong on there. They're all HDDs bar the last one. I'm also having the window size issue with the 2x2 monitor geometry, perhaps that is related.

I am also affected, latest Steam beta (but happened on stable for quite long time as well). Debian Sid, KDE, Xorg, NVIDIA 525 driver line. Happy to provide more info for debugging.

What is your steam version? A few problems have cleared up for me, I don't know if that's a steam update or a Mint update. This hasn't happened for an age, so I think I'm probably good. Make sure you're up to date then. My system status:

I am on the stable branch, I should check out the beta channel and see if it pressist. Ofc, could also be a kernel thing as mine is getting old.. Additional note, I have the .deb version of Steam.

I installed steam through apt. Kernel 6 cleared up a few other non-steam annoyances as well, so worth updating. Steam beta on linux is recommended I'd say, it's all so new and changing so fast. As well as all the proton stuff but I imagine you're on that. I don't know if the steam .deb updates automatically. Might be worth checking and moving to the apt version if not.

When thinking about it, believe I installed it with the software center (apt). Thanks for these tips, will countinue with beta channel myself. When it comes to kernel upgrades, think I'll just wait for the next LTS since it should be out in a few weeks anyways. Have a nice weekend! :)

Software center is generally flatpak, distinct from apt. If you find it in software center, it will tell you whether it's flatpak or apt. Apt will be described as system.
