Compatibility Report

First of all I'm very impressed by how my RX 6800 works directly on Ubuntu 24.04 (most of the time I used as server for work), thanks a lot for bring this to Linux!

Some games don't fully work with 3840 x 2560 (3:2) 4K+ Huawei Mateview 28 monitor

System Information

[!NOTE]
I could help testing other proton versions, let me know if this would be helpful.

Symptoms

I have a Huawei Mateview 28 which has a weird 3:2 ratio at 3840 * 2560 @ 60Hz (via DP cable). I noticed some games don't fully work in "full screen", more details below.

Games working normal

  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (1903340): almost finished the game, completely normal
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (1174180): seems normal at first galance (didn't have time to explore more extensively)

Games partially work

  • Hollow Knight (367520):
    • Fullscreen mode: changing to fullscreen freezes the game window and forces focus on the game window (i.e. trying to change to another windows via either "Win" key or "alt + tab" would focus the display back on the game)
    • Boardless mode: shows "3840 x 2560 @ 60 hz" in settings but doesn't really show game at full screen (it's slightly taller than 3840 x 2160 but with boarder to the top and bottom of the screen)
  • Hollow Knight: Silksong (1030300):
    • Fullscreen mode: changing to fullscreen freezes the game window and forces focus on the game window (i.e. trying to change to another windows via either "Win" key or "alt + tab" would focus the display back on the game)
    • Boardless mode: same behaviour for "3840 x 2560 @ 60 hz", but when I click on 3840 x 2160 it seems to stretch the window vertically and completely fill up the screen (and showing resolution as 3840 x 2560).
  • God of War (1593500):
    • Fullscreen mode: didn't find this option
    • Boardless mode: locked resolution at "3840 x 2560" but not really full screen, just taller than 4K with borader to the top/bottom
    • Windowed mode: resolution capped (maybe kind of normal depending on the size available for that window?)
  • DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT (1850570):
    • no "3:2" mode (maybe not in the roadmap at all) but 16:9 (4K) seems to work fine
  • Cyberpunk 2077 (1091500):
    • 3840 * 2560 (3:2): not really 3:2, slightly taller than 3840 x 2160 but with boarder to the top and bottom of the screen)
    • 3840 * 2160 (4K): works fine in windows (boardless) modes, image stretched vertically in fullscreen mode

Games crashed at start

  • God of War Ragnarök (2322010): Image
    • "hacked" following comment via SteamDeck=1 %command% in https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/8107
    • full screen mode capped at "3840 x 2400"
    • windowed mode capped at "3700 x 2462" (maybe normal considering menu bar), with boarder to the top/bottom

Hello @DanielYang59, this needs to be evaluated on a per-game basis. Please add a note with your findings to the preexisting compatibility reports (#3825 #9044).

oh I see, most of the issues I noticed seem similar across different games and I thought it's some issue with support to my specific resolution
