Symptoms

When “use dx11” is selected in the settings, meaning the game runs on DirectX 11, then when you press Alt+Tab, Super+D, or simply go to the desktop, you get a black screen and there's nothing you can do about it. But if you disable the setting, meaning run the game on DirectX 9, then everything is fine. I installed a custom proton and the situation is the same.

• This issue is specific to Fullscreen mode.
• In Borderless Window mode, Alt+Tabbing works as expected without any black screen.

1. Launch Paladins via Proton.
2. Open Settings -> Video tab.
3. Enable "Use DX11" and set Display Mode to "Fullscreen".
4. Restart the game to apply changes (if necessary).
5. Once in the main menu or in a match, press Alt+Tab or the Super key (Windows key) to switch to the desktop.
6. Observe that the screen turns black and the system/game becomes unresponsive.
7. Note: The issue does not occur if "Borderless Window" is used instead of "Fullscreen".
